I agree, it is just plain and simple ignorance much of which is a result of parental and peer attitude.Along with a hearty helping of deliberate mis-information and downright lies from the media,polititions and a lax education system.Had I called one of my Black or Mixican playmates any seriously hatefull name my parents or the parents of my playmates would have tanned my little behind and rightly so. Besides which wee all color blind in my neighborhood,Peoria Illinois in the 40"s and 50's. Not to say everyone felt the same, however we were all poor by the standards of the time.

When I was a kid in southern California, our neighborhood included white, black, American Indian, India Indian, Filipino, and Mexican ... just that I can recall. Everyone was just "people."
