Democrats Insist Republicans Pull Bush Ad
By Jennifer C. Kerr
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle is demanding that Republicans stop showing their first television ad of the 2004 presidential race, which he called "repulsive and outrageous." The 30-second ad, which aired in Iowa over the weekend, features clips of Bush during his State of the Union address last January. It portrays Bush as a fighter of terrorism and says his opponents "are now attacking the president for attacking the terrorists."

"It's wrong. It's erroneous, and I think that they ought to pull the ad," Daschle told NBC's "Meet the Press" program on Sunday.

"We all want to defeat terrorism," the South Dakota senator said. But "to chastise and to question the patriotism of those who are in opposition to some of the president's plans I think is wrong."

The Republican National Committee has no plans to honor Daschle's wishes.

"We have no doubt that Sen. Daschle and others in his party who oppose the president's policy of pre-emptive self-defense believe that their national security approach is in the best interests of the country," RNC spokeswoman Christine Iverson said. "But we also have no doubt that they are wrong about that, and we will continue to highlight this critical policy difference as well as others."

Other Democrats on the Sunday talk shows joined Daschle in his criticism.

Presidential candidate Wesley Clark said the ad is wrong and ought to be pulled. It violates "the pledge the president made to not exploit 9-11 for political purposes," Clark said on CBS' "Face the Nation."

Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy called it an "attempt to stifle dissent." On ABC's "This Week," Kennedy said "dissent is a basic part of what our whole society is about."

Speaking on CNN's "Late Edition," presidential candidate and Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman said the ad was misleading, nothing more than an attempt "to get the public's mind off the joblessness in America, the bad prescription Medicare drug bill ... the energy bill, which sells out to lobbyists."

Republicans countered that there was nothing wrong with the ad, which was airing Sunday in Iowa, the day before the Democratic presidential debate in Des Moines.

"It's portraying the president's leadership that he's displayed since Sept. 11, which I support," Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona said on ABC. "I think it's a very legitimate statement to be made in the coming presidential election."

The ad will air through Tuesday in Iowa, and then may run again in New Hampshire during the next Democratic debate in December, said the RNC's Iverson. She said the party plans to run ads in conjunction with the Democratic debates, but the decision hasn't been made whether to simply run the current ad or new ones supporting the president.

This IS GREAT. Now the news media has an excuse to run this ad over and over again as a "news" item...

Lets see them do it, how many times did they run the Texas Byrd add for free?

Once again I find myself outraged by these democrats. It is fine for them to have ads attacking the President. It is great when they travel the country saying he has no idea what he doing in the war, that it is a quagmire, blah, blah, blah. They can go to foreign countries and denounce him and his war on terror. Their debates are televised and most of those are nothing more than attacks on Bush and his war! But he is not allowed to address the truth once again. This is beyond the pale as usual.

May I suggest adding to your ad a few lines from the new book on Clinton's foreign policy failures that helped bring us 911, LEGACY!

All Americans should read this book!

It really bothers them -- they seem to be whining in a chorus about it.

Truth hurts. I'll say one thing, the Dems don't just preach collectivism -- like a herd of bumbling prey animals on the wide Serengeti, they practice it.

Just a terrific ad. We're being attacked by terrorists. The President is fighting back but Democrats are foolishly attacking the President rather than training attention on the terrorists. America needs a strong leader and the Democrats' lack of courage in confronting the terrorist threat (undermining the Patriot Act, refusing to fund the soldiers while they're in harm's way) should disqualify them from holding high office. I hope this line of attack is used for House and Senate seats as well.

Talk about outrage, I am outraged! I have been listening to Kennedy call our President a liar, and his judicial nominees Neanderthals.

Heard about people being enlisted to write Bush hatchet job books to flood the market.
Heard every Whiney Nine-y dem running for president, call President Bush's policies and strategies, disgusting, outrageous, irresponsible and every derogatory word you can think of.

Heard them misquote every thing the President said about eminent danger.

These people are no more mature than five year olds. And why they think an ad that states the truth is harming them is because they cannot tolerate the truth.

I hope that ad runs from now till the election. And that thousands and thousands of decent people, regardless of party, realize just how warped the democrat party leaders have become. So warped that they cannot recognize reality when they see it. So warped that they believe their own lies.

** **** ***

Respectfully they are very mature. They have a developed sense of propaganda skills. They know every manuver they are making.

They know the democrat party is becoming irrelevant on the world stage. The recent Bush trip in britain was a success politically and and drives the dems crazy.

The Republican party is the party of significance on the world stage. The democrat party is for all intents and purposes, irrelevant. They are trying to mask it by giving tasty soundbites for the FOREIGN PRESS. Kennedy's quotes are not intended for the US audience, it is intended to play in france and germany so that they can be fortified and enboldened in going agains President Bush. It is futher proof that the democrat party needs to become extinct.
