I didn't imply she was. I pointed out that it looked that way, from her extreme posts..

Apparently she wasn't so moot point.

I suppose she gets some payoff for feeling that way.

I sense, in the experiences I've had with encountering this line of thinking, that it's more about not being able or willing to face difficult truths (pain avoidance) and manipulating those truths into something less threatening (in THEIR minds) so as to have more (supposed) emotional control them. Just my opinion.

And how do you get a conviction when parents keep accepting payoffs to keep their children from testifying? Personally I think that should be a criminal offense, earning a long prison term. But it's widespread, and I've never heard of any legal action against the participants. The Catholic Church's payoffs to parents were systematic and involved both large sums of money and large numbers of children. I think all those parents, and any Church officials who authorized those payments, ought to be locked up right alongside the molesters.

If this were an out of court settlement, does a judge have to approve the terms of the settlement...

I honestly don't know the specifics on how it all works. I would guess that a small army of lawyers end up being very well paid, though.

Just seems like some independent party would have to see the agreement to verify it as an enforceable agreement...

My thoughts are that Pellicano was negotiating a deal with a boy Jackson raped and when the Pelican was busted in the Segal deal, his ongoing work-in-progress on this deal was uncovered and turned over to prosecutors.

Good theory. You may very well be right.

Imagine having your child on the witness stand ...

Don't have to imagine. It was the most heart-wrenching experience of my life.

Suppose he'll turn into a black man by the time he's 45?

He's already 45 and I don't think he will become a black man any time soon.

Conan O'Brien said the other night that Jackson was going to indroduce a line of men's clothes.

Do you think Willie "Cotton Club" Clinton could be the model?

I agree with you.

I'm the mother of a wonderful, brilliant child who has Asperger's Syndrome and I deeply resent ignorant, stupid, vicious people using it as an insult.

Have you thought about what it would be like to spend, say, twelve years fighting a rich pedophile in court...while your child, who was molested, has to keep testifying, being attacked in court, being pursued by the media....

I'd take the money as the only justice I could reasonably hope to get, and spare my child the years-long legal ordeal which could only keep a shattered soul from healing. Since justice is not swift, taking payoffs and settling is the only reasonable option for people who face a wealthy, powerful, influential opponent.

It's not fair to tar as criminal people who make a decision to spare their families years of combat that they might just lose. Our legal system makes it easy for Michael Jacksons to win, and very hard for the little guy to even get a chance to present his case.

It wasn't an insult. I was making a point that asking personal questions like that was wrong. Was my point really that difficult to get? We're on the same side here... just regarding a different problem someone may have... sexual abuse versus something else. Using anthing like that as a weapon in a discussion is low. I don't appreciate being called ignorant, stupid, and vicious when I was being exactly the opposite.

I'm well aware of that. What college football player would be so stupid to do that?

Um, an Aggie?

what was interesting about Pelicano is that he made such a forceful statement to the point that he would NEVER reveal info under client privilege to the degree that he's willing to go to jail before revealing... very strong to the degree that he was trying to send a message to his people that he DIDN'T rat 'em out although it's pretty obvious he did...
