[history]
It is a full year before next year's national elections, and Democrats are already up to dirty tricks. On air yesterday, commentator Sean Hannity made public a leaked memorandum that detailed a Democratic plan to use classified intelligence information to attack President Bush politically. The memo suggested that Democrats "pull the majority along as far as we can on issues that may lead to major new disclosures" and then "pull the trigger" against the administration. West Virginia's Jay Rockefeller, the ranking member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, admitted that the memo was written by his staff, but downplayed its importance. The scandal will be difficult to cover up.

Exactly right, the Senate Intelligence Committee should be considered compromised, unless and until a thorough investigation and housecleaning occurs, to make sure no more treasonous electioneering occurs at the expense of national security.

I am delighted to see someone other than Fox News is publishing this stuff. Do you happen to know how widely read the Washington Times is?
And could someone who has access to the Times please tell us where this article appeared,, was it buried amoung some obscure stuff below the fold, near the back of the paper, or did it get decent placement in the paper?

The only thing worse than the democrats' sleazy behavior is the absolute COWARDICE the republicans are displaying regarding this matter. Okay, on this thread it only took until the 3rd post until someone made the nonsensical assertion that the GOP is the real problem here. If it wasn't for posts like yours, I'd be afraid I wasn't on FR.

Well - if they do - then this committee becomes merely a witch hunt tool of the Democrat Party to use taxpayer money to destroy a sitting president. If history and precendent mean anything, it will.
As long as we all rant and rave and then say - well, you know, there is nothing we can do, nothing will get done.
Good point. If the informed public can force CBS to do the right thing, maybe we can influence the Republicans to do the right thing.

...the nonsensical assertion that the GOP is the real problem here...They are. Everybody knows that the rats are going to behave like rats unless their power is checked. The Republicans have been entrusted with that responsibility, but have never fulfilled it. They are the ones we need to pressure.
To: Jeff Chandler
Everybody knows that the rats are going to behave like rats...Oh, so that makes it okay, then.
...unless their power is checked.
Like by defeating them time and time again at the polls?

...the memo certainly violated Senate ethics rules that prohibit government employees from using government time and resources for political machinations.
I can't even imagine the rats giving the GOP a pass on this were the
roles reversed, yet that seems to be exactly what the "majority party"
plans to do.

Did anybody see ANYTHING on the lamestream news yesterday about this memo? I watched Petah Jennings and saw NOTHING. However, Petah must have been VERY AWARE of the memo since he led off his broadcast with a story (delivered in urgent tones) about some obscure Lebanese businessman who claims that a bigwig Iraqi was willing to let an American disarmament team into Iraq shortly before the war broke out. This turned out to be a complete NON-STORY (nothing much in the news about this today) but it served as a convenient smokescreen for Petah to use to divert attention away from the memo.
Let's see. Petah reports on a non-story about Iraq and completely ignores a major story concerning the memo. Way to go, Petah!

Hey genius... Answer some these questions for me.
1.) This is TREASON. If the Republicans do nothing about treason, what would you call their actions? I call it, to steal a line from Zell Miller, "treason's first cousin."
2.)If they do nothing, in order to advance the lie of the "spirit of bipartisanship" they have FAILED us, right?
3.) Since you are a a genius... Tell me, step by step, what the chain of events would be if a REPUBLICAN memo was leaked during the CLINTON Administration.
When a schmuck acts like a schlemiel, there is little outrage after a while--it becomes expected. But when the Republicans start condoning this behavior--in effect, supporting and encouraging this behavior--the outrage should be directed towards them. Right?

1) The GOP is doing something. You just don't like it.
2) See #1
3) Basically the exact same chain of events, except the media would do all the Dems' work.
But when the Republicans start condoning this behavior--in effect, supporting and encouraging this behavior--the outrage should be directed towards them. Right?
Fortunately that's not the case, despite your cyber outrage.

Jay Rockefeller should resign from the Senate Select Intelligence Committee because... Let's just say that
Jay Rockefeller should resign from the Senate
and leave it at that. This is far more serious than making a few gracious remarks about Strom Thurmond.

Everybody knows that the rats are going to behave like rats...
Oh, so that makes it okay, then. What difference does it make if there are no consequenses for their actions (Hint: it is the responsibility of the Republicans to enforce the consequences.)
...unless their power is checked.
Like by defeating them time and time again at the polls?
Then turning around and allowing them to run the senate?
I heard Orville Hatch on a radio interview today. He sounded like a little girl when he whined about how afraid the Republican senators are of being pilloried by the media, which is the real reason they won't act like men.

1) The GOP is doing something. You just don't like it. What exactly are they doing?

They're signalling that if the rats fire a clerk, the matter will be dropped.
Sen. Saxby Chambliss, Georgia Republican and member of the intelligence committee, said Democrats have a responsibility "to tell us where [the memo] came from ... and to have that staffer removed."
To: Captainpaintball; Jeff Chandler
What exactly are they doing? Oh, I'm sure you'll both sneer, but this morning's Wash Times reports that Sen. Santorum and the GOP are threatening to remove the Dems' power-sharing privileges if the Dems don't publicly disavow this plot. Sen. Specter has called for an investigation into who wrote the memo and why. Sen. Chambliss called for disclosure and firing of the memo's author.

Clinton showed the Dems that you can get away with anything if you refuse to resign. Because they have no honor and have no goal other than keeping their power, this is a winning strategy for them. The media expects Republicans to be holy and will insist on resignation of any Republican who slips up, remember Trent Lott? But they are perfectly happy to have the biggest weasels in office on the Dem side, because it is their side.
To: kattracks
WHY AREN'T THE REPUBLICANS COUNTERING THE "OUTRAGE" BY THE DEMOCRATS IN THE LEAK OF THE MEMO, WITH THE FOLLOWING?
IF THE DEMOCRATS CAN'T EVEN KEEP A STINKIN MINORITY MEMO SECURE ENOUGH AS NOT TO BE LEAKED TO THE MEDIA, HOW CAN THEY BE TRUSTED WITH MATTERS OF NATIONAL SECURITY AND SECRET INTELLEGENCE?

Fox and Friends are all over this memo this morning. Talking about it each half-hour--Saxby Chambliss is going to be on later.
Email them with your thoughts about this traitorous back-stabbing memo:
Friends@foxnews.com Do it now! Give Chambliss our voices to add to his own.
