A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....10-28-03...God Bless the USA ~ Lift Every Voice

A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Lee Greenwood wrote those words in a song in 1983 to bring people together. In the introduction of his booklet entitled "God Bless the USA", which includes a CD of that song, he also wrote:
"I'm sometimes overwhelmed by this vast nation and wish I could see how America will change in the next one hundred years. As long as we continue to dream, create inventions, and solve the challenges of an ever-expanding population, we will have the power to create a better society. But it is inevitable that the freedom, liberty, and can-do attitude that characterize us will be challenged, sometimes in ways that leave us no choice but to defend ourselves and the land we love. It happened in 1941 at Pearl Harbor and again in 2001 at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon."

Through the years countless songs have been written and words spoken that celebrate the breadth of the American experience. Recalling a few, who can dispute the simplicity and beauty of such words as these:

~ from "America", by Samuel Francis Smith ~

"My country, 'tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing:
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrims' pride,
From every mountainside
Let freedom ring."

~ from "America the Beautiful"
words by Katherine Lee Bates Martin
music by Samuel Ward ~

America! America!
God mend thine ev'ry flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control
Thy liberty in law."

~ Martin Luther King's American Dream ~

"I have a dream that one day...the sons of
former slaves and the sons of former slave
owners will be able to sit down together
at the table of brotherhood...I have a dream
that my four little children will one day
live in a nation where they will not be
judged by the color of their skin but by
the content of their character."

~ from Alistair Cooke ~

"It has always been cited as an irrepressible
symptom of America's vitality that her people,
in fair times and foul, believe in themselves
and their institutions."

~ from "The People, Yes", by Carl Sandburg ~

"The free man is willing to pay and struggle and die
for the freedom for himself and others
Knowing how far to subject himself to discipline
and obedience for the sake of an ordered society....
This free man is a rare bird and when you meet
him take a good look at him and try to figure him
out because some day when the United States of
this earth gets going and runs smooth and pretty
there will be more of him than we have now."

"Your Florida son have good things to say?"

Boy, oh boy, Jinxie - you dare ask a mother to brag about her son??!!
LOL

He is awesome and God-directed, and has two big irons in the fire.
First is selecting his study for his doctoral dissertation on somethng new and exciting for surgery.
Secondly, he has invented an electronic tool that will literally revolutionize testing - of 'whatever.' ANY field - medicine (he is a Physician Assistant, teaching PA students at a University) - education - industry - MILITARY - etc. - and can be applied internationally.

Next week, in fact, an international publishing company in Boston is flying him up there to present it to a gathering of their Biggies..:))
The ramifications are enormous for the world and for him personally, and he has the proper frame of mind. Entrusts it all to God to guide - if it doesn't fly, then he will feel God has something else for him to do. I am so blessed with my three children.

I can just see you holding that precious baby girl!

Your son sounds as if he is changing the world (for good) LadyX. Congratulations on your raising of a fine man :) I have been working all say at the County Republican HQ getting ready for our big auction November 8th. I was able to read some posts on FR but not log in. Looks like it's been another fine day here! But now goodnite everybody - I'm off to finish my book by Corrie Ten Boom, "Tramp for the Lord," it's really inspiring. And I just finished Spiritual Warfare by Dean Sherman - I highly recommend it BTW. Libby :)

Sweet dreams friends...

"by Corrie Ten Boom"

Cannot tell you how many copies I've given away of her wonderful testimony, The Hiding Place."

It starts off ever so slowly, describing her so very simple early life - then the Germans' arrival and the impact on her life, hiding Jews in the upstairs of their tiny home!
The things that happened when she and her sister, Betsy, were placed in a concentration camp, are mind-boggling, with God present in the situation.

Recommend it for everyone to read, as I did 4 or 5 times, gleaning new things each time.

Good night, Miss Libby, and my Dear John..:))

(looking forward to our date on Thursday, JH..:))

Didja notice in GW's comments this am that he failed to list the nine dwarfs as part of the enemies of freedom in Iraq?

I thought they were included in his remarks about top al-Qaeda leaders and sympathizers being nabbed? ;-) G'evening to you, friend.

Oh, so sorry you haven't been feeling well lately. Hope you and the kiddos are better or on track to getting better now !! :O)

It sounds to me like, since ya'll aren't tied down to any particular place, that it's just a matter of making up your mind to move back to Texas and then just doing it !

As Rod Roddy would say (may he rest in peace), 'Come on down !!!'

The weather here this week has been GORGEOUS. Highs in the 70s - low 80s. Cool in the mornings (around 50), but gorgeous after around 8-9 a.m. I love this time of year in Texas !!

(Have I convinced you yet???, LOL !!!)

When you hear the Shepherd's voice
As He calls you, 'Come to Me,'
In your life make Him your choice
And a faithful follower be. —Hess

You don't need to know where you're going if you're following the Shepherd.

Re: Rock in rural Iowa. Isn't that a fantastic tribute? I saw a post on FR last week by someone who knows the Sorenson family. Bubba has been painting the rock every year since he was in high school. I wish I'd bookmarked that thread because there were a few other details about him on it that I don't recall now. Thank you for posting this.

Hanging the flag from the eaves is a good idea but I live on the second story of a 3 story apartment building so I don't have eaves. That did give me an idea though, I could hang the flag inside our sliding glass door. If it's hanging inside I don't have to worry about the elements. :)

Yes, ear infection, I got water in my ears when I shampooed my hair in the shower. Normally I wear ear plugs to do this, I simply forgot to do so this time. And I paid the price for it. I had an older Ear, Noise and Throat doc tell me that I would be subject to multiple ear infections more commonly called 'swimmer's ear' because of the way my eurastation tubes were formed; so I should use ear plugs when I showered and shampooed my hair. I've done it for over 25 years and have had very few events of ear infection. Only get them when I get forgetful of those little ear plugs. To complicate matters I have adverse reactions to most of those meds like Sudafed which help dry up the fluid in the ears.

I've spent the day on the couch with Rocky, sleeping on and off. The antibiotic is starting to kick in.
