Syria says cannot stop militants entering Iraq - "If America cannot stop Mexicans..."

LONDON, Oct. 25 — Syria cannot stop militants entering Iraq to attack U.S. forces, Syrian Foreign Minister Farouq al-Shara said in an interview with a British Sunday newspaper.

-- snip --

''They are very determined and many of them dream of seeing an American tank,'' Shara said of militants who cross the border into Iraq.

''We are doing everything we can,'' he told the Sunday Telegraph. ''We have tightened our checkpoints and are turning people back. But the border is long and we cannot cover it all.

''If America, a rich superpower cannot stop Mexicans crossing into the United States, then how can we, a poor country, be expected to stop Palestinians getting into Iraq.''

Wonder if it is a Freeper?

Could be. I think the illegal immigrant issue is picking up speed. More and more people are talking about it and all the wishful thinking make it go away.

The Mexicans are coming to work for Americans for better futures. The palestinian terrorists are coming to Iraq kill Americans out of religious/idealogical hatred. Those who don't understand the significant difference have forgotten the meaning of September 11th

Of course you are making the assumption that, out of the 400,000+ people that cross our southern border illegally every year, not one single person is a terrorist.

BTW, I've got some plots of land on the moon to sell you.

"The only problem is that it's not that we can't, it's that we(the government) don't want to. :( "

Yes, and neither do they.

I am making the assumption that the Syrian borders are a greater threat to our troops than the Mexican borders and I am not giving an ounce of aid and comfort to our enemies.

"If America, a rich superpower cannot stop Mexicans crossing into the United States, then how can we, a poor country, be expected to stop Palestinians getting into Iraq."

As a Californian who has watched the environmental, economic, and cultural ruination of the state, largely due to excessive legal immigration and unenforced illegal immigraiton, I for once agree with the Syrian propagandists.

I'm with you.

I can't believe all the fools posting on this thread who believe that all the illegal aliens pouring in from Mexico are innocent and harmless. Not the case where I live. Maybe they would change their tune if their families or friends were victims of crimes committed by illegals who don't have to undergo criminal background checks.

And nothing galls me more than illegals coming up here to pop out their kids at taxpayer expense. I don't see things changing much until enough citizens demand that we quit giving automatic citizenship to babies of illegal aliens.

In the meantime, all of the support for Mexican and other illegals is just a slap in the face to all the decent people worldwide who are patiently undergoing the LEGAL immigration process to come here.

I'm all for controlling our borders and stopping illegal immigration...

Well right there your position on this issue and George Bush's position are diametrically opposed. George Bush, in case you didn’t know, is 100% FOR Illegal Immigration while you claim to be against it.

If there was any doubt about Bush’s “feelings” on Illegal Immigration he removed it when he uttered his famous "Family Values Don't Stop at the Rio Grande" line during a speech before a largely Hispanic audience two years ago. A comment that was followed up by his insight that: “When [paraphrasing here] Someone South of the Border who has a family to raise sees a guy in Pittsburgh making 15 dollars an hour and he is only making 1 dollar an hour you better believe that that person will want to come to Pittsburgh and get that job”. Bush said this in a context that left little question that he thought there is nothing wrong with Mexicans (others) entering America Illegally. That this was all very natural and that he sympathized with their cause.

If you think I’m wrong on this you have to ask yourself why is it that even after 911 Bush continues to leave our Borders Wide Open to the Mexican Invasion while our immigration laws go purposely unenforced.

Is Syria serious about making an effort to stymie the border crossings? Of course not. But the Bush administration's complacence with our own borders has given this Syrian offical the rope to hang us with.

I don't disagree with wanting our borders closed, although using U.S. troops to do so seems to be against the rules. There's far more than a dozen bad guys a year crossing Syria's borders who are killing our people, so I would have to insist that the Syrian get cracking with his responsibilities since it's having an immediate impact on our troops.

it's not that we can't, it's that we(the government) don't want to. :(

I heard Tommy Franks say in an interview (w/ Tony Snow, I believe) that he believed any country that wanted to could control its borders.

Man, it seems you have an uncontained, open hostility towards Mexicans.

Maybe you should move out of Texas, if that's inconvenient for you.

There's always Montana or Idaho.

The fact that the Mexican government is a socialist one and won't improve the quality of life for its people, so they can stay and work there, does not mean that the Mexicans here are inherently evil, just like you want to paint them.

You are channeling your frustrations towards the wrong target.

And before you bash me, I'm a legal immigrant.

Do you recognize the sheer assininity of this statement? Not slamming you, I think it's true. But if our armed forces are not allowed to defend the border of our OWN COUNTRY, it is time to disband the military and start over from scratch.
