LONDON, Oct. 25 Syria cannot stop militants entering Iraq to attack U.S. forces, Syrian Foreign Minister Farouq al-Shara said in an interview with a British Sunday newspaper.

''They are very determined and many of them dream of seeing an American tank,'' Shara said of militants who cross the border into Iraq.
''We are doing everything we can,'' he told the Sunday Telegraph. ''We have tightened our checkpoints and are turning people back. But the border is long and we cannot cover it all.
''If America, a rich superpower cannot stop Mexicans crossing into the United States, then how can we, a poor country, be expected to stop Palestinians getting into Iraq.''

Who cares if it is most of our illegals that are not crossing to kill?
All it takes is a dozen out of the 400,000 that cross annually to cause the massive killings that we saw on Sep. 11th.
Frankly, I agree with the Syrian official that it is hypocritcal of the Bush administration to criticize Syria for "not stopping terrorist border crossings" when the Bush administration itself is turning a blind eye to our own porous borders and letting future terrorists cross over here on a daily basis. Is Syria serious about making an effort to stymie the border crossings? Of course not. But the Bush administration's complacence with our own borders has given this Syrian offical the rope to hang us with.
STOP TERRORISTS FROM ENTERING THE COUNTRY....BRING HOME THE TROOPS STATIONED IN GERMANY AND SEND THEM TO THE BORDERS NOW
I was a prisoner to Hennepin County high property taxes, state income tax, and neighbors who were all Wellstone-loving Democrats
Now I am in Texas....I feel much freer!
It would seem that not only is America (American government) unable and unwilling to stop illegal criminal border crossing, the American government is abetting the criminal border crossers by arresting and jailing anyone that attempts to enforce the law.
Now, there is a solution that will appeal to all Americans and is applicable to all the illegal mexicans. Just in case any wimpy little lurkers are scared to go look at this solution, it does not involve arms.
I ran it by a legal bud of mine and he just smiled. First comment was "Yep, the crime of conspiracy is committed as soon as the illegal sets foot on u.S. territory. Therefor, anyone questioning a suspect illegal border crosser that receves an answer of "looking for work" as the illegal's reason for crossing the border and currently being in u.S. territory is no longer facing a simple tresspasser. The illegal has at that point confessed to conspiracy to violate federal money laundering laws. And if there is "reasonable suspicion" that the illegal border crosser is breaking major federal laws and is no longer a simple tresspasser, that American citizen (in most states) can legally detain the criminal border crosser.
TLI
Firing across the bow.
Try dead center hit on the bridge.
As you say, that's a hard point to argue against.
Really? Gosh, I didn't know that.
whether they speak English or not.
The infiltration and mainstreaming of the Spanish language was due to the fact that illegals have moved over here and clustered in ghettos where only Spanish is spoken.
IOW, there are millions of Americans with all the rights of any other citizen who don't speak English.
You can thank the 1986 amnesty for that one.
So called Repubs may want to ignore those facts while Dems pander to them. Who do you think they're going to vote for generation after generation?
Democrats.
You may know as much about Mexican immigration as you do about the moon. It's a big sucker, but you've never been close enough to it to explore it except to know it's there and a few things you've been told about it. What if what you've been told is wrong, at least part of it...?
I lived in Houston for 25 of my 34 years....I am well qualified to talk about the effects that illegal immigration throughout the 80s and 90s has had on property values, jobs, and the general cleanliness of the city.
Personally, I'm very glad GWB isn't ignoring those who immigrated from Mexico. Like it or not, they're a big, and growing, part of the American melting pot.
If it were a true "melting" pot, they would be learning English rather than demanding bilingual education and demanding government services be available in Spanish.
Like it or not, that's the way it is.
I Don't like it and I won't accept that that is the way it has to be.
I'm all for controlling our borders and stopping illegal immigration, but that's quite a different problem from recognizing those who are here and are quite legal despite not speaking English.
see prior comment about 1986 amnesty.
To the best of my knowledge, NO..
All "palestinian" refugees are kept in refugee camps, regardless of what their true [arab] nationality may be.
Also, regardless of what country they are in.
( Two exceptions, Iraq and Jordan. )
Iraq does not have "camps", but post war pali's are pretty much segregated, having been kicked out of their preferred status housing by their Iraqi landlords. Many are now living in tent cities and encampments under Coalition control.
Jordan, if I understand the system correctly, now allows arabs claiming palestinian status voting rights and citizenship rights with some limitations.
( Due to the "Black September" revolt of the Jordanian Pali's, and the subsequent slaughter of thousands of palestinians, [by the Jordanian government] there are some restraints on citizenship rights .)
Lebanon still keeps pali's in refugee camps, they have no rights.
Egypt is pretty much status unknown. (by me)
If I understand it correctly, pali's live in "enclaves", but there are no actual official refugee camps. I don't believe they can vote.
As is the case in ALL arab countries with palestinian refugees, they are encouraged to infiltrate Israel and become part of the "struggle to liberate the Holy Land of Palestine" .
This has been Arab national policy since 1946 ( actually since approx. 1900 ) but especially since 1948 when the "armistace" was signed between the new state of Israel and the Arab states. (Mainly Trans-Jordan and Egypt)
Considered a "cease fire", the arabs translated it to mean "guerrilla war".
All arabs that have declared themselves palestinians have in effect dedicated themselves to a lifelong Jihad against the Jews. Themselves and their families, and heirs.
The goal is the destruction of Israel, and there is no going back, no reward for failure, only segregation and punishment.
Incompetence would imply that they are actually trying to do something, but failing miserably. IMO, our immigration policy under Bush represents willful neglect
Cannot? No.
WILL not.
Differences (of course), abound:
The Mexican's entering the U.S. border are not carrying AK47's and RPGs. The Mexican's crossing our border are by and large peaceable. If they were not, there'd be a military presence wasting every armed Mexican crossing the border.
The Syrians willingly host Islamic militant front organizations on Syrian soil. They support and train these terrorists. Having failed to expel or arrest the leaders of these organizations, and since Syria in fact actively compensates these militants while on Syrian soil, Syria is implicated in every American death at the hands of their so-called "radical Islamic" mercenaries.
This statement represents an open invitation to U.S. forces to enter Syria to dispatch the terrorist organizations, their foot soldiers, and any Syrian military presence that gets in the way. In fact, I have little doubt our SOF are operating in Syria now.
I believe Syria has just cooked it's own goose.
