So, Ramadan begins this Monday, October 27, 2003. Any ideas on how we should celebrate?

What are you going to do for Ramadan this year?

Have my usual ham and eggs for breakfast, make some beer brats for lunch, and have a Manhattan with dinner.

Your tagline is in my Top 5 Taglines of All Times List. Excellent.

Thank you. I don't remember where I heard it but it seemed to 'sum up' the whole debate.

In the immortal words of Vincent Vega from "Pulp Fiction,"

Bacon. Accompanied by eggs and hash browns, all fried in bacon grease.

Tonight, after a BBQ pork rib dinner I shall have a beer while petting my dog beside me, all while telling my wife and daughters that they should be proud to live in a free society where they can worship or not worship as they please, choose any career they wish, and marry a man they fall in love with, regardless of race or creed.

How will I celebrate Ramalamadingdong?

Pillar 1: Orient body Eastward toward Mecca

Pillar 2: Extend both arms outward

Pillar 3: Raise middle fingers

Pillar 4: Mutter ancient and meaningful ephithets

Pillar 5: Grab crotch and sneer at Mohammad's legacy

Pillar 6: Recheck all personal firearms

Pillar 7: Say a prayer of thanks for our troops

I will be sacrificing the dog across the street. This dog's barking keeps me awake at night. I will of course offer up this sacrifice for victory in Iraq, thereby killing two birds with one stone. I already feel better.

A few years ago I celebrated Ramadan by reading Steven Runciman's history of the First Crusade. Marching to Jerusalem with Godfrey of Boulogne is a pleasant way to pass the Ramadan season.
