Subtraction, not addition, is emerging as the central threat to Republicans in the 2026 election. Polls suggest that’s a greater danger for the GOP than the possibility that Democrats will add a big cache of new votes...
“When both parties are viewed negatively, you are probably going not to see a lot of new voters,” said Texas-based GOP strategist Matt Mackowiak, with a view widely shared on both sides.
Instead, this year’s result could turn on which side suffers greater falloff among the voters who backed it in 2024. And all signs so far indicate that Republicans now face the greater risk from that sort of subtraction.
For the GOP, this year’s biggest challenge will be would-be voters who say, “I’m frustrated, I’m disappointed, I’m pissed off and I’m not going to bother,” said Democratic pollster Paul Maslin.

There are millions of Republicans who are literally sickened by this “deal”.
CNN is so concerned about the republicans. LOL.
The people who fabricate the votes never stay home.
Millions? Try thousands, and many of them are posting on FR. I know of very few Republicans who talk about Iran much, if at all, except in relation to gas prices. And now that gas prices are dropping, probably even less now.
Just another CNN propaganda piece designed to suppress Republican voter turnout. Expect to see lots of this in the coming months.
Ending that war will bring many back. He may lose the neocons, but he never really had them unless he was doing their warmongering.

Let the “leadership” learn a lesson
It’s even worse than that.
The elections that will tip the scales are decided by way less than millions. It doesn’t take much to turn the tide.
Take Collins (RINO-ME). She won in 2020 with 417,645 votes vs 347,223 for her opponent. That’s a 70,422 margin.
She’s now facing Adolph Platner. All he needs to do - using 2020 vote totals - is flip 35,212 votes and he’s in.
Now, Maine seems like an odd situation: a “maverick” R senator who plays to purple constituents and often annoys Trump.
Her opponent should be annihilated but is, sadly, polling well despite his tattoo, abusive personality, and use of a pedo app.
I don’t think Repubs in Maine will stay home when Platner is such a despicable human. But with about 35k votes being the margin, and with people enthusiastically supporting this slimy guy, the Repubs can’t play it safe.
platner is not polling well in the real polls. If he was polling well, the dems wouldn’t be trying to sink his candidacy and install mills as their candidate

Exactly. That said, Trump is doing himself and the country no favors by letting everyone not directly involved in the BTS talks (MSM, foreign "sources", etc.) dictate the discussion.
Trump needs to clear the air and he needs to do it soon. If what is being reported is the plan, then Trump deserves all of the criticism, and our country is doomed.
