Mount Holyoke College hosted in September its Common Read Keynote with Pulitzer-winning New York Times journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones to talk about The 1619 Project, which was chosen to be this years common read.
During the keynote, Vice President for Equity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer Kijua Sanders-McMurtry interviewed Hannah-Jones.
"I dont think were an exceptional nation. I think thats ludicrous for any nation to make that claim, and we certainly cannot make that claim." Tweet This I think the 1619 Project should honestly be at every college, university, corporation, and school foundationally if these institutions are truly interested in being anti-racist, Sanders-McMurtry said. I think there is this idea out here right now that this is anti-American, and that this is seeking to reframe a narrative that doesnt need to be reframed, and I think youve done a beautiful job saying that this does need to be reframed and heres why."

Go back to Africa then.
They did not believe in democracy. They believed in a constitutional republic.
I believe that you had to own land to be a voter back then. I’d like to see a return to that, frankly, I felt that way even when I owned no land.
How far up your a*& does your head have to BE for that kind of statement?
The enemy within!
“Pulitzer-winning New York Times journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones”
Stopped reading there.
The goal is to delegitimize our founders and the nation as founded by them.
They want communism.
They believed in a constitutional republic.
We are an exceptional nation if we weren’t you’d wouldn’t be publicly bloviating now !
Its amazingly ironic how completely, absolutely uniform in race, gender and ideology these PC phony positions of diversity officer are.
What you said, and the horse you rode in on.
The 1619 Project author is not an exceptional author...
Saying something is exceptional is not even bragging since doesn’t mean the something is better than something else.
The author needs to support his assertion with a comparison of America with other nations and cultures.
As for "Democracy? Madison dealt with that notion in the Federalist Papers.
As for universal suffrage? Threat To Liberty
Again, no way this idea even gets a hearing.
Shes right on the first item, we are NOT a dounded democracy thank God. She can have her opinion of America who cares
Founded sheesh. Thumbs not cooperating
It’s not a democracy, it’s a REPUBLIC!
They hated democracy. This story shows how far we have fallen.
I’ve said that there should be a rule that you are only allowed to vote if you submit a 1040 where you paid net taxes. Even if only a dollar.
And if a married couple files separately, and one paid taxes and the other didn’t, only the one that paid taxes gets to vote.
A proposal like yours would change things.
