The Weekly Standard published An Open Letter to Mitt Romney on Tuesday night, begging the former Republican presidential nominee to launch a third-party bid.
[T]hese are extraordinary times, and your nation still has need of your service. I respectfully implore you to run for president as an independent candidate in 2016, Jay Cost wrote.
Cost slams presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clintons Nixonian paranoia of enemies and calls her Republican counterpart, Donald Trump, a sympathizer with the nativist alt-right.
They do not see Americans as Americans, the letter continues. They see each of us as potential allies or foes, depending upon their small-minded political calculations.
It ends by pleading Romney to run.
Governor Romney, there is nobody else but you who is capable of such a bid," Cost writes. Only you possess the experience, the political network, the good health, and the time to dedicate to this great endeavor [of launching a third-party bid].
The Weekly Standard was founded by Bill Kristol, a prominent Never Trump conservative who has been trying to recruit a third-party candidate.
Romney is finished; bye bye RINO.
When is Kristol going to come clean and switch parties?
The weakly standard is no way a conservative organization. Now going all out treasonous.
Why would a conservative magazine ask a Massachusetts liberal to run for president?
Why run third party? Just run for the Democrat nomination once the lawsuits start over the clear violation of the 22nd amendment which prohibits Bill Clinton’s third term in office.
There is a healthy history of binding up intra-party wounds following an election. I don’t think it’s going to work this time. The Weekly Standard and National Review have taken their bitterness to appalling depths that may be irrecoverable.
So these Conservatives hate Trump because they think he’s a liberal yet they will vote for Romney..LOL LOL OK Romney now that’s a real Conservative..created Romneycare, is for amnesty for illegals, yep, that’s a Conservative champion right there
For his ideological background, from his father's own interpretation of the movement: Neocon Phenomenon.
"As U.S. real output grew 13 percent between 2002 and 2006, Massachusetts trailed at 9 percent.
* Manufacturing employment fell 7 percent nationwide those years, but sank 14 percent under Romney, placing Massachusetts 48th among the states.
* Between fall 2003 and autumn 2006, U.S. job growth averaged 5.4 percent, nearly three times Massachusetts' anemic 1.9 percent pace.
* While 8 million Americans over age 16 found work between 2002 and 2006, the number of employed Massachusetts residents actually declined by 8,500 during those years.
"Massachusetts was the only state to have failed to post any gain in its pool of employed residents," professors Sum and McLaughlin concluded.
In an April 2003 meeting with the Massachusetts congressional delegation in Washington, Romney failed to endorse President Bush's $726 billion tax-cut proposal."

See my reply #9. These people are not conservatives.
Kristol’s Krew are just pathetic. If they just can’t stomach the thought of voting for Trump, they can go vote Libertarian or something.
One good thing to come out of this election is that the Weekly Standard and National Review are getting shoved further down the path of irrelevancy.
Romney would most likely take votes from Clinton so yeah go ahead.
I voted for Mitt Romney and believe he would have made a good president. I don’t blame Romney for losing the election, but Romney did lose. Trump now is the Republican nominee and it is time for all Republicans to accept that and rally behind Trump. As on old teacher of mine used to say, “Lead, follow, or get out of the way!”
And the storm clouds parted and Little Billy Kristol welcomed the figure walking towards him, for he could see that the sun shone all on this person... He could not see exactly who it was except that he had a mice suit. He called out, “Mitt! You deliver us from the wicked New York charlatan. Hugh is with me. So is George. Michael... Mark... Were all here”. Suddenly there was ahortific gasp. And sinister laughter. “Boys go back to the hole you crawled out of. I have a country to save”. Thus spoke Trump.
Once, Twice, Three times a loser.....
the Weekly Standard is NOT a ‘conservative magaszine” — it was mostly conservative when Daddy ran it, but NOT now with BOY running it. BOY has ruined what was a pretty worthwhile publication, I didn’t have to agree with ALL of it to recognize it did run some very worthwhile articles in the old days)
so now with BOY running it, stopped reading it
(besides, no real conservative magazine would ask ROMNEYcare to run for anything, ha! the posted article’s author should have known THAT, for goodness’s sakes!)
The Weekly Standard hasn’t seen “Americans being Americans” for a very long time.
