The Ted Cruz Campaign Will Win Or Lose By March 6
Red State ^ | February 23, 2016 | Dan McLaughlin

The Hour of Peril Comes First For Cruz

Many things about this campaign have been unfair, but are no less real for being unfair. One is that the primary calendar is not evenly distributed. As I have argued for months now, the front-loading of states favorable to Ted Cruz in the first week of March is both an opportunity and a challenge for Cruz. Now, the hour of peril is here. If ever there was a time for Cruz's projections of millions of non-voting true conservatives to materialize, this is it. But if Cruz doesn't have a very good showing on March 1 and 5 (more below on what that might look like), his plausible path to the nomination will go off to John Kasich-land, and he will be faced with the choice of staying on as a factional/vanity candidate or getting out for the good of the conservative movement. It may not be fair that Cruz faces this test earlier than Marco Rubio does, but it has been built into Cruz's primary strategy and the nature of the calendar from the very beginning.

I have said for some time now - ever since my first choice in this race, Bobby Jindal, got out - that while I prefer Rubio to Cruz and think he would be a better general election candidate, I would without hesitation support Cruz if Rubio's campaign no longer had a path forward, and I'd happily go to war behind Cruz in the fall. I had always assumed that Cruz would be in this race to the very end, and he'll have money and supporters enough to do so if he chooses....

After the Carson dropping out flap it may be adding to suspicions that his campaign was intentionally dishonest. But Cruz has always struck me as a straight shooter. He can’t afford any more screw ups like that in his campaign.

You’re kidding, right? You receive an online video with subtitles that are that explosive and you add your name to it, as communications director of a campaign? How utterly STUPID! You must think those goofy bad lip sync spoofs are real.

I don’t know what you are going on about. I said Tyler was stupid and he was fired for his stupidity, but the video was not created by the Cruz campaign. I have my opinion about who else is stupid, but I’ll just keep that to myself.

Nobody said it was created by the campaign, but the campaign did propagate it by none other than the Communications Director of the said campaign. Where does the buck stop in your world? But I suppose to some it all depends what the meaning of “is” is.

As close as Tyler is/was to Cruz, being one of his first hires, it is unconscionable that Cruz did not have a tighter rein on those who spoke OFFICIALLY for him.

Frankly, if it had not been for Donald Trump, Jeb Bush would probably be the presumptive nominee by now.

that is the salient point in this election, and historians will be talking about that years from now...

The phony video did not come from Cruz's campaign. Tyler saw the video online and tweeted it out without verifying it. Tyler was stupid but that video did not originate with Cruz's campaign or was it authorized by Cruz.
The truth of what you say notwithstanding, the big problem is: In the world of politics,

Perception is reality

The talking heads were discussing this tonight. The RNC set up the entire primary to provide maximum benefit to Jeb Bush, and now that setup was likely going to work to Trump's favor instead.

No matter who drops out, Trump will gather a good number of that person's supporters. I would assume that trump got a lot of Jeb's supporters (not that there were many), Rubio got the next best amount and Cruz got a few who had no idea why they were in it for Jeb.

Well what about the Rubio one? He hasn’t won a single state yet and no one says he is out. How about Carson, Casick?? Why aren’t they out already?? Why is it always Cruz has to get out???

I sure hope and expect Cruz to still be in the race on March 15, so I can vote for him. In any case, I will be voting AGAINST Trump, the worst person on the ballot.

They still caught all the blame for it, though, because of the weight they put on it. I wasn’t suggesting they did it, I was just saying that the thing blew up and with the firing and all, it made the whole campaign look troubled is all.
