2016 GOP POWER INDEX: JEB BREAKS DOWN, RUBIO RACES AHEAD In what could end up being the final pairing of the Republican nominating contest two 44-year-old Cuban American senators hold the top two spots in this weeks 2016 GOP Power Index.
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, remains the FNF favorite to win the votes of Republican insurgents. Cruz is running a disciplined campaign and mostly avoiding the candidate-on-candidate violence of the cycle. And he is raising enough money to burn a wet elephant.
But on the other side of the map, the terrain is shifting. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., is consolidating his status as the favorite for Republican-establishmentarians. (The term establishment seems a little worn out this cycle since it now means any person who has ever won an election, but thats what Rubio is.)
Despite puny fundraising numbers in the last quarter, Rubio continues to press ahead. It doesnt hurt that he has help from deep-pocketed outside groups. But the best thing going for Rubio is the impossibly weak candidacy of his mentor-turned-rival Jeb Bush.
Bushs super PAC has started unloading positive ads about the former Florida governor in a bid to boost his flagging fortunes. In the latest CBS News poll, Bush cards the worst favorability rating 6 points underwater of any top-tier candidate....

good luck with that strategery, jeb.
I admire the organization Cruz keeps putting together. He’s doing a lot of things right.
“races ahead”? ROTFLOL
Chris Wallace does LSD.
FOX “News” is less reliable than Pravda or DEBKA.
Cruz has won an election and he’s not “establishment.”
Fiorina hasn’t won an election and she *is* “establishment.”
But the writer is a writer and likes his writing to be cute.
Bring on Jeb Jr.
The gal I work with as a bundler is very professional.
The Ministry of Propaganda can’t make The Cheap Labor Express candidates go up in the polls no matter how hard they try.
Better give Marco another bottle of Trump's Natural Spring Water. He's going to really need it.
Bush has enough money to torch his rivals......I don’t care how much money ANY candidate has. Does he have enough to say flat out “I’m not an asshole. Vote for me and I’ll give you $10,000 CASH?”
Anti-Trump bias continues at Fox.
In a sane world, Jeb would have suspended his campaign and redistributed his available campaign coffer either back to the original donors, or to other more deserving and credible candidates.
This is not a sane world. The competition includes a highly articulate and charismatic billionaire and a soft-spoken and highly competent physician, neither of whom are professional politicians in any manner.
The Establishment Republicans are pretty much dead men walking for this election cycle, and the prognosis for recovery is getting dimmer every day.
The Last Hurrah? Scorched earth is such a sterile concept.
We’re supposed to believe what Faux tells us?...
Oh really?
The big money is the soft PAC money, at the last FEC report period it was a tad over $100 mil. ¡JEB’s poor start out of the gate forced the PACs to commit about $25+ mil to media ads in just NH and Iowa. That’s 25+% of that PAC money by Sept 2015. The big donors are already skittish and that money has been rumored to slowed to a trickle. As of last week ¡JEB has not filed the latest required FEC report of donations and spending. The mark of a sick campaign.
Stewart’s mixed his dirty underwear with prime crack, ruining the crack, smoked them together, and come up with this barfer.
The main problem I see with all this surging and strategizing is its not really getting either candidate within striking distance of the real GOP leader Trump. :-)
If the GOPe doesn’t find a way to give it to Jeb, they’ll get it to Rubio.
Still way early and will coalesce as the lesser candidates drop out.
Stirewalt always tells Me-Gyn Kelly what she wants to hear. I don’t know if you can find more of a shill than Stirewalt on Fox.
Once he was Jeb!, but you can call him Jeb? now.
