JimRob then proceeded to banish all the pro-Rudy posters from FR. It was a purge of fairly epic proportions.

Prior to that, there had been considerable support for Rudy on FR. A few months earlier, Rudy had actually placed second in a straw poll on FR. The "Rudybots" as they were termed, were actively posting pro Giuliani threads pretty much 24/7.

What finally led Jim Robinson to take this step were Giuliani's comments in support of the Roe v. Wade decision at the May 3rd GOP presidential debate.

Prior to that, Rudy had increasingly come under the microscope at FR. The "Giuliani Truth File" was a stand alone category on the FR home page. There was an ongoing “STOP RUDY NOW News & Information Thread” that was featured.

Now let me state a few things for the record.

1. Jim Robinson is absolutely correct that a pro-choice position is anathema to FReepers. We may disagree on other topics, but this is our hill, on which we will all stand and die together. Rudy could not be the GOP nominee for that reason alone.

2. Many questioned whether Jim Rob should take such a drastic course of action..banning hundreds of people. Some felt that it would be better to engage in ongoing debate and discussion among ourselves. That was never the question. Indeed, it was never up for debate. I lost several good friends, of many years standing, that day, but I never questioned his absolute right to take that course of action. It is his website; he is free to run it as he sees fit, and those who can't abide with his decisions have the freedom to go elsewhere.

Now that we have that out of the way, let us turn our attention to "The Donald."

Trump is NOT a conservative.

He is not even a Republican. He was a registered Democrat from 2001-2009.

He has given far more to Democrats than to Republicans.

For most of his life, he was strongly, and proudly pro-choice. IOW, he was OK with killing babies.

He will NOT pledge to support the eventual Republican nominee, and will not promise to NOT run a third-party race.

What Trump IS, is a narcissistic, megalomaniacal, bloviating asshole. It is beyond me how so many self-proclaimed conservatives here at FR could be supporting this clown. He is utterly unfit to serve as NYC Sanitation Commissioner, let alone as President.

That is of course their absolute right to do so.

But what I fail to understand is why Jim Robinson has not as yet banished all the "Trumpsters" from FR? What, pray tell, makes "the Donald" acceptable here, whereas Giuliani was not?

Trump has his flaws and you raise many good points. One thing is fairly certain is The Donald is no traitor to the USA. We have that right now in the WH and Admin aided by Pravda on the Potomac. The media back then and still today somewhat worship and adore The Bam while they excoriate DT. Big, big difference. Trump aint perfect but better than a whole lotta them cretins in DC.

For me it's either Trump or Cthulhu—the former if I want to vote for the lesser evil, otherwise the latter.

You don’t have to support Trump (or Cruz for that matter) to appreciate what they are doing.

When is the last time there were two candidates for President who took on both major political parties and the media while running as Republicans?

Think about that.

Perhaps it’s none of your business. It’s Jim’s site, and he can do what he wants here.

Way, way too early to be taking sides yet. Let’s sit back, watch the circus, and yammer among ourselves about it until January.

While I agree with you on Trump - who is not a conservative and has made other attempts at running for office where he washed out because it was clear that he was just a mouth with no mind, and not even a conservative mouth. - I don’t think JR eliminated Rudy supporters as such, but just because they were such pests.

Trump posters are falling into the pest category, btw.

Can you trust Trump to defund the baby parts selling Planned Parenthood? Probably not. Can you trust Trump to prosecute the baby parts sellers? Definitely not.

One major reason Republican Party leaders are against Trump is because he has the money to finance his own campaign.

If he is the Republican candidate for president Republican Party leaders won't get their usual cut of campaign contributions.

IMO.

I believe PROLIFE is a mountain compared to all the other ant hill issues. Killing at least 1000 babies every single day,24/7....nothing compares to that. Some say 2000 some say 4000...it makes the Nazis look like nuns.

That being said. When the GOP has the Presidency and both Houses of Government they did nothing....they could have used the nuclear option in the house and passed legislation to increase the requirements of clinics so high that it would have put them out of business....but nope.

Sooo.....we shall see what President Trump will do. Judging from what I have seen he will easily out executive action odumbi and maybe we can save the children.

But what I fail to understand is why Jim Robinson has not as yet banished all the "Trumpsters" from FR?

Because if you "banish" a whole swathe of people simply because they support some different candidate than you do, it's a good indicator that you're a petty, small-minded, idiotic, low-intelligence moron who can't deal reasonably with other people who disagree with you, that's why.

As is being demonstrated by the candidates who are bashing Trump, often you achieve the opposite of your goals when you seek to knock out your opposition too early. There must be respect for the process and for the right of all to be heard and to make their case.

It is not my website, but it seems the goals of this website are clear. So there is no need to tolerate promotion of Democrats. As for Republicans, it would be my preference to have more substantial debate and less invective between the Republican candidates. I think that would serve the goals better than to just either ban or slam some candidates as a way to promote one candidate. All it leaves us with is the choir. All the potential converts are chased away.

Regardless of what you think of a republican candidate, it is wise to remember that the candidate’s supporters are the very people you will need with you if your candidate wins. If you make them hate you, they will transfer that hate to your candidate. it is simply human nature. It will be much easier to win the support of fellow republicans in the general election than it will be to win the support of the crazy left. Some republicans try to make the GOP a “big tent” by offering liberalism-lite. All they do is drive out conservatives. The tent becomes smaller and less coherent. We need to argue that principle with words — study and hard work that produces debate winners. If we argue it with invective we only aid them in pushing us out.

Every purge has been a bad idea. Made FR less interesting, and made the freepathons take longer. So as much as I despise The Donald, and think conservative following him are confused, I hope there’s no purge.
