Ive been approached several times today by doubters who advance arguments as to why Sarah Palin cannot win the nomination, or if she secures it, why she cant defeat Barack Obama.
All of the theories Ive had pitched in my direction today share a couple common faults, and its important to point them out here. The most common reason Ive heard today is the belief that the Media will destroy her. Thats silly. Is there a single Republican, never mind conservative, who the media will not seek to destroy to defend their darling, Barack Obama?
Anybody who watched the media in action after McCains nomination in 2008 should by now be thoroughly disabused of that shoddy notion. The Lame-Stream Media has been trying for three years running to destroy Sarah Palin, and there is no chance, having failed thus far, that they will improve results on their limited success.
The problem is that if the media narrative about a person is based on lies, in the longer run, those lies lose effectiveness as people learn the truth from other sources, and worse yet, the lies come back to haunt their purveyors because once the audience, having originally believed them, in the second instance realizes theyve been scammed, they will thereafter no longer be inclined to believe another pronouncement given voice by that source.
The second most common flaw in the arguments Ive been hearing and reading today is the dubious assumption that shes an intellectual lightweight. Truthfully, there couldnt be a more ridiculous claim upon which to base ones criticisms, and yet this is the default argument of those who wish to suggest that Sarah Palin isnt qualified.
Its the constant harangue of the elite media types, and it has been a failure repeatedly. They tried to paint a similar picture of Ronald Reagan, and in fact, every Republican in my memory.
Its a claim that falls on deaf ears in most quarters, because in the final analysis, its simply not believable given all she has already accompished. Having covered what critics have said, let me move on to my own list of reasons in opposition to these notions.
I firmly believe that Sarah Palin will run, win the nomination, and ultimately the Presidency.
Let's keep in mind that "electability" is a purely subjective term. It is manipulated by the powers that be and the whims of people. It is NOT an absolute.
"Virtue", on the other hand is a concrete value. Something we can really discern, measure, and thus believe in. If I had to chose one or the other to base an election on.... I'll go with VIRTUE.
Can’t find your pants?
Go Sarah!
Palin ‘12!!!
Sad, but true.
And that is why the Tea Party was formed and continues to grow. Tea Party people value virtue and have faith that in holding true to virtuous values, we will win!
1) you have not withdrawn your charge.
2) instead you have taken refuge in semantics-you say you did not make a "charge" but you certainly made an insinuation. And an insinuation of fraud and deceit!
3) after making such an insinuation and hiding childishly behind semantics when you were called on the boorishnish of your conduct, you then accuse me of not behaving "like a man."
4) in doing so you behaved cowardly and repeated your original offense ad hominem.
5) then, you compound it with this remark: "Another chance to drop the fuscia tutu and put your "biggy boy" pants back on"
6) two or three times now you have led the reader to believe that the following is a quote taken somewhere from one of my posts. I have no recollection of such a statement being made by me. I have posted well over 5000 times, perhaps 10,000 times, on this forum so it is quite possible that those are my words but a decent man would provide a citation. Perhaps the quotation belongs to Dark wolf 377? I'm entitled to the context so that I can write a response if I choose to, which is unlikely in view of your conduct.
7) in leaving the reader with the impression that I have made the statement you quote, you have possibly misled the reader, you've certainly confused me. You do not debate in a decent and honorable fashion because you do not provide context or citation.
8) repeating your points in bold type does not make them cogent it makes them annoying, they remain what they have always been, bluster.
You have not helped the reputation of this forum and you have certainly not advanced the cause of Sarah Palen and you never will do either until you learn to behave decently.
I understand what you say and you may right in theory and in this case of Palin (we shall see), but at the same time, it is automatic surrender to say that if the MSM doesn’t want the Republicans to run a non-nonsense conservative with close to 100% intergity, then by golly, we have to honor the MSM (or else).
Personally I believe Obama is DOA in 2012 and anyone will beat him, and that includes Sarah Palin, in fact, she might win PA, MI, WI. If you believe his economic policies are a folly, and they are, there is no way the econmy turns around, and Pre. BOZO loses, no matter what. Hence, the electability meme in 2012 in my judgment plays a minimal role.
As to Sarah Palin's virtues, they are legion and the attacks against her are worse than unscrupulous, they are repugnant to any sense of virtue. But to quote the enemy, Jack Kennedy-who today might well be an ally-"first you got to get elected."
All of Sarah Palin's virtues are of no use whatsoever if she loses the election.
Sarah Palin needs to overcome this portrayal.
Well this is not an insurmountable feat. Since I suppose if it were, Eisenhower and every Republican candidate since him would have never been elected then... If the vast majority of voters bought into this garbage.
You have this ‘submit’ to the air of inevitability about you.
“Sarah Palin is coming, and the TEA Party is coming with her.”
Hear..Hear!!
As to the first, if you take a look at my "about" page you will see that I make the same argument there and if you look at my motto at the foot of this reply you'll see much the same sentiment. I quite agree, we cannot permit the media to define us.
That means that when they attempt to define us, we must strike back immediately and implacably set the record straight. I am at a loss to understand how resigning the governorship in the face of multiple bogus ethics charges sets the record straight. I am at a loss to understand why Sarah Palin has never addressed the cardinal knock against her, that she lacks gravitas, by making a serious issue oriented speeches-ideally about energy-in a serious forum such as the National Press Club. For her own reasons she has chosen not to do so.
The problem is the knock on her has not been rebutted and has become barnacled and hoary with age and part of the culture of the independents who decide elections in the manner described in the posts by Dark Wolf 377 on this thread.
In sum, Sarah Palin has indeed permitted the media to define her where it counts, among the people who decide elections and she has not rebutted it.
As to the second point, that the Republicans are destined to win by such a majority that any nominee, or at least Sarah Palin, will win despite any alleged electability handicap. I think this is a dangerous attitude to take.
There are two secular forces working against us as conservatives. The first is demographics and in every election cycle the numbers against us get worse and worse. When Obama wakes up on election morning he will have 95% of African-American vote, 70 to 80% of the Jewish vote etc., etc. So when he wakes up on that morning he will have an assured tally in excess of 40% of the popular vote.
Therefore, he is aiming to find less than double digits to win. Right now, it looks a very difficult hill for him to climb but these races often tighten up towards the end before they break.
As I have repeatedly posted, I believe that this will be a dirty election because of Obama cannot run on his record and therefore he will demagogue his opponent and especially play the race card. There is no telling how the independents will react to this and that is because of a second factor:
The media will support him in this demagoguery and we simply cannot predict with confidence how that will affect the independent vote. As Rummy would say, this is a known unknown.
Setting new tagline.
Sarah Palin has something that no other candidate has..... my vote.
“All of Sarah Palin’s virtues are of no use whatsoever if she loses the election.”
That is actually not true. She would still clearly articulate what needs to happen to fix the country, and people can reflect on that for four more long, dark years of 0 “leadership” in the unlikely event she did lose. (I hope a clear majority of Americans vote against 0 having more Supreme Court picks regardless of who the R nominee is, though.)
My belief is, though, that regardless of Sarah’s public image come November 6, 2012, most people will vote for her because they want “anyone but 0bama”. In fact, by then the complete contrast of her style, beliefs and integrity with 0 will make her a very attractive option.
Only problem with your argument is this....the others in the race are mostly jokes!
So it`s the first person that enters the race that says...I got dibs I am in first, so if you enter it`s all your fault??? That may be OK at school on the playground, but not in real life
Michele Bachmann for instance is a total fruit cake/joke with no character/class, her entry in the race was simply ill advised.
Much of her support comes/came from the MSM, she has basically made little impact and has raised virtually NO money...no real money to speak of. If anybody has played the roll of a spoiler in any way it`s Michele Bachmann.
When Gov Sarah Palin gets in the race, the money will be there in the multi multi millions.
Your post might have read better this way....If Governor Sarah Palin does not get in the race, we will get stuck with another RINO
