Whither Palin?
American Thinker ^ | August 14, 2011 | Rick Moran

Posted on 08/14/2011 2:58:46 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

There is a great line in "Godfather III" where the businessman/mob boss Don Lucchesi says, "Finance is a gun. Politics is knowing when to pull the trigger." In politics, timing is everything. And for Sarah Palin, the hammer is cocked, the round is chambered, and she appears ready to make the decision on whether or not to drop the hammer and launch her campaign:

Sarah Palin has left Iowa, her "One Nation" bus tour stopping in Saturday at the birthplace of Ronald Reagan in Dixon, Ill., but looking back on her whirlwind visit to the Iowa State Fair on Friday, and some comments she made in response to reporters, it seems she is not just stringing her indecision out for fun and fame. She appears to be weighing her options and believes that the rules of timing and engagement do not apply to her.

"Each campaign that I have ever run in these 20 years of elective office have been kind of unconventional, right, Todd? We've always been outspent, two-to-one, five-to-one, 10-to-one. Never won any polls heading into election night. But usually won the election. So it would be unconventional and very grass roots."

Palin, who has a small, far-flung staff, some of whom are not experienced in national politics, added, "And I wouldn't be out there looking for hires out of that political bubble that seemed to result in the same old ideas, the same old talking points, the things that Americans get so sick and tired of hearing and kind of suffering through. We want new energy, we want conviction and passion and candidness."

Reagan announced quite late.

The primaries are starting earlier now. For instance, Super Tuesday in 1980 (I don't think it was called that then) was held June 3. In 2008, it was held February 4. In 2012, it will be held February 7.

Ross Perot entered the race February 20, 1992. Have you a point to make?

The year 1992 was a time before the Internet existed for every voter.

Totally different era. You might as well talk about the days of the Pony Expresss.

That was then this is now....she has got to enter by Labor Day...otherwise...she can be the cheerleader for the other GOP candidates OR be Perry’s VP pick. Time is running out...and people are losing interest in her...they aren’t fond of this game she is playing...Jack Wheeler has been a stanch supporter of Palin...he too has tired of her game playing and is now supporting Perry.

I don’t think that Kathleen Parker, Bill Maher, Karl Rove, Joy Behar, Ed Rollins and pissant (combined) have PDS as badly as you do. Seek help.

“Methinks your preferred candidate is already running... :)”

I said she was announcing. To me, that means that means she is running, but not yet announced.

I think she would make a great President, but just overcoming her abrupt resignation would be a challenge.

And before anyone counters with some variation of "How many millions in legal fees was she supposed to ring up defending herself against all of those bogus ethics charges the libs were hitting her with?", I agree with you. You don't need to convince me. We'll have to convince the Independents and undecideds.

And when are we going to get a "loser pays" so this doesn't happen again?

Agreed. Nobody else outside of a crevo thread could post the same ill-considered, already-refuted material so many times in succession.

Cheers!

Prove it.

Empirically or theoretically?

Just watch how he behaves during the following scenarios:

1a) Palin declares she is running.

vs.

1b) Palin drops out without running.

2a) Palin opens a commanding lead.

vs.

2b) Palin is neck-and-neck or trailing another conservative

vs.

2c) Palin is neck-and-neck or trailing a RINO

3a) Palin announces a RINO for her VP running mate

vs.

3b) Palin announces a conservative (well regarded) for her VP running mate

vs.

3c) Palin announces another relative unknown for her running mate

Cheers!

Prove he’s not.

Have you never learned that it is not possible to prove a negative? You made a rather serious charge and assumed the burden of proof. I'll wait here.

“The year 1992 was a time before the Internet existed for every voter.
Totally different era.”

Yeah,,, and what does the internet do? Speed things up. the time to build a viable campaign grassroot network in 1980 or 92 was one thing. What took weeks or months then, takes days now. Technology means she can wait LONGER,,, not that she must get in faster.

And you might not have noticed thru your PDS that Sarah is living on the net. A tweet today, a facebook tomorrow, a website here, a TV series there,,a movie. You might not have noticed, but it’s a full court press already. And it’s all beng done by a PRIVATE CITIZEN. (smirk) It isn’t being done by a Governor of Alaska that gets sued for wearing an Oakley windbreaker at a snowmobile race and has to spend time and cash to defend against it. It isnt being done by a candidate under the scrutiny of the FEC.
Also, a news network looks silly attacking a citizen, yet,, they HAVE to cover her, because if they don’t, what if she does something huge,,,,,and THEY missed it?

Like Sun Tzu advised,,, she is choosing the battlefield and the place. Her enemies are stamping around like children. They already decided that she should have announced 6 months ago. They were zeroed in,,, and shes attacking somewhere else.

Face it,, General Palin has Pwned the repub establishment and the media is one fell swoop. And among all the candidates, when she speaks, Obama is utterly compelled to respond immediately.
Sarah is doing fine.

Since you dodge the challenge to prove your charge in post 25, the logical assumption is that you have nothing but an obsession over your own nether region.

"She appears to be weighing her options and believes that the rules of timing and engagement do not apply to her. "

And she is correct. There are two types of candidates who need to start early and smack their opponents around:

The "Unknowns"
The "Unable-to-Raise Funds Quickly" types.

..and she is neither. And neither was Reagan, who declared at the very end of November.

Which is why her "running-without-running tease" is strategically brilliant.
