I've been hearing that some groups of people are not welcome at Free Republic anymore, but I didn't believe what I was hearing because that seems like the complete opposite of "Free". I've heard that supporters of Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Ron Paul, Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, and more are no longer welcome to post at this site.
This site is about uniting people together against the liberal onslaught that is ruining our country and we could use all the help we can get right?
Please correct me so I can correct others who have told me that this is the case. A new slogan is making it's rounds that 'the Free Republic has become anything but.'

OK...I’ll bite.
By exodus or banning as well as I can remember;
1) First exodus was Trixie, Lucianne Goldberg and her posse to her new site in 98 or 99 after the Clinton stained dress stuff...not sure how many left with her
2) quite a bit of ruffled feathers here over rancor about Bush and McCain etc in the 2000 run up to the nomination...all candidates were referred to as dopeheads, dope dealers, idiots, socialists, maniacs and whatever...it settled down after the nomination and folks ..many reluctantly got behind Bush
3) after 9-11, we had a surge ....huge really of more moderate less ideological freepers who moderated the social and fiscal nature of the bent here and fights erupted over whether to be mean about Islam and homeland security rights and so forth and a fair number of libertarians and some anti-jack booted thugs folks left and went to Liberty Post and beyond...and some still post back and forth...some of these libertarians are very prolific and rather famous posters
4) during that lull between 9-11 and the amnesty wars here there were squabbles over CFR, assault weapons ban, education bill, free drugs bill and whatnot and plenty up and left with a scalding opus (a required course of voluntary exit)
5) right before the amnesty heat-up here quite a few social moderate-liberal sorts up and left for their own new site allied Clown posse which soon became the premier anti-freeper site even more so than KOS or DU and existed only to spew vile at FR. I think many homosexual FReepers went there. There were a couple who were witty as all get out but the rest was shrill racism charges and all manner of politically correct echo chambering combined with fiscal conservatism....to be so worried about minorities they were vicious to some FReepers especially women freepers which makes me think many Clown Posse were homosexual or women themselves...who knows, they hid out of the light mostly...many have filtered back here
6) Next up was the illegals amnesty fights here which rocked this forum and sharply divided many. Funny to think now that just a few years ago maybe one third of freepers approved of some sort of amnesty and wide open legal immigration and the crazy notion that Mexicans would vote GOP since they were after all Catholic. Quite a few were banned during that time including me for a year. The Harpies (coming up next) were big on the amnesty side and were instrumental in a lot of that.
7) after Katrina when it became apparent what life was like for whites left in the Superdome and Convention Center in New Orleans and black looting running rampant even by cops and many freepers here expounding on that fact of urban life nowadays then quite a few black freepers took their toys and left for another sandbox...some of them have returned now too. ....I’m sort of ambivalent on that one.
8) This occurred during my absence but as I understand it the harpies and others lined up behind Guliani but given his pro-abortion record the management and other powers that be here would have none of that and the line was drawn and hence the Harpies and a few others led by an Englishman went off to another just formed site called something I can’t remember now and it lasted a while and then sort broke up into folks to Darwin Central (home to many former Clown Posse members) and something called Pachyderm(?)...but many of them have snuck back too...they just can’t resist JR’s siren call.
that’s about it aside from the banning of the occasional lefty or racist or just crazy troll

Jeff, you’re right on about DU, as it didn’t take me very long to get banned over there, just for telling the truth. One thing that probably didn’t help my case though, is that I hung out on the “Gun” threads, and picked the Gedsden Flag for my avatar!! Oh well, it was fun while it lasted...

Nobody sent me here, but someone I know was banned here recently and he said he wasn’t disrecpectful in any way. He said he posted in one topic about how he thinks Mitt gets a bad rap about his health care plan and that we should rally behind his ideas or else Obama will get his away and he got banned. He just brought up an idea and got banned which seemed ridiculous to me, so I wanted to see if that actually happens here.
Does anyone know what I’m talking about or is my friend full of it?

You bet, there have been certain groups that would always
ping themselves to various threads, but to single out actual
groups “would not” seem to be the normal action.
Some individuals might have taken their posse with them
but not all were KICKED OUT.
Just my opinion.
It is probably someone who was banned.
In the fall of 2007 I received freepmail from someone who knew Mitt. I don’t know why he was banned, but he was. Jim makes no bones, he does not want people here who support anyone that he doesn’t.
