.................................................................
The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.
FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.
I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

And it's wonderful to BE here again. After the email bin, this is the first place I head. For laughs, and poetry, and friendship. {{Amy}} for all your work finding "stuff" for us to read.
To: dansangel
Shine OnThanks for reviving it for us. It strikes me that you have mentioned the little things we take for granted in our everyday life. In the same vein, when I see a beautiful full moon rise, I think that if it happened only once in our lifetime, or if we had to pay to see it, the joint would be mobbed! Just another of the many daily privileges of life....like the "wind rush against your cheek" that you mention.
To: Mama_Bear
At first I thought you were throwing them at me. ;-) LOL!LOL
And, just for that you get a smooooooooch on your cute fuzzy forehead.
Wowser!! AhhhhRooooo!!!!
Now, I need to run out for awhile. I'll be back. :-)
Hmmmmm.....you're always running 'out'....how's about running 'in' *here*? LOL
To: chadsworth
I guess that means that you have to feed us our afternoon snack then. :)

Far Side Banks Of JordanWow..the words give me goose bumps, being that they left the earth so close in time to each other. It says he wrote it, and he says that he feels he will be the first to go.......he must have been the most surprised of all that June left first, huh?

It was news to *me* - caught me completely off guard! Uh-oh - you sure messed up, Dan! Now there will be no more ready-made, store-bought birthday, anniversary, or valentine cards. :)

The first time I read your poem, I felt sad. But it isn't sad at all. It's perfectly beautiful and well expressed.

BEGINNING TO ENDAre you an imposter!? No? Well.....
....all I have to say is ...God was certainly generous with the giving of *talent* in your family.
And I thought all you could do was play with guns and hit targets.
Very nice, 45.Man. : )

I will pass the request along to JustFrank and see if he can talk Amy into doing a little upscale snack. He can come up with more than dog buiscits and bones.( my main diet- uh oh, I had better be careful - doghouse is vacant right now)- and I hope LIR doesn't see this one.

It says he wrote it, and he says that he feels he will be the first to go.......he must have been the most surprised of all that June left first, huh? I'm sure he thought he would be the first to go. Especially since he had been so sick for so many years and the women usually do outlast the men.
Did some research and found that he didn't write that song though. Heres what I found...you can also hear a midi of the song. This accordian version was all I could find.
Far Side Banks Of Jordan
Terry Smith was voted by the "Traditional Music Association" as it's Songwriter of the Year in both 1995 and 1996, wrote "Far-Side Banks Of Jordan", which is featured twice in Robert Duvall's movie, The Apostle and is included on the film's soundtrack CD.

I
n the same vein, when I see a beautiful full moon rise, I think that if it happened only once in our lifetime, or if we had to pay to see it, the joint would be mobbed! That is so true (((((okimhere))))). I never really thought about it, but all of the absolute *miracles* that we are surrounded with, we nearly almost always take for granted. We're too busy, too tired, too rushed, etc.
Pay out $16.00 for movie tickets and another $20.00 on overpriced junk food, and we become a captive audience to canned garbage.
Thank you for a different and enlightening view!

I'm stunned, I tell you! He's quite an artist, too, but he'd never share that with you. I consult with him on all of my threads for his input on how they appear visually.
***BUT**** - I can outshoot him anyday. ROFL!!
