.................................................................
The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.
FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.
I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

Wearing the Tartan
There was a time
Two hundred years ago,
When Englishmen
Filled with fear,
Decided to crush the Scottish pride.
They banned wearing the
Kilt under penalty of death,
They determined to destroy
The Scotsman's heritage,
To wipe out its remembrance
From the Earth.
After thirty years they appeared
To have won.
And yet, the chapter is not
Closed, the story is not through,
For many ill-loved Scots
Fled to America and helped
Make her great,
With courage and intellect,
They led America forward.
With Scottish blood
Flowing in the
Heart of America's
Progress and growth.
So, I wear the tartan with pride,
And remember oppressed
Ancestors from long ago,
Forced to wear English pants.
I wear the Kilt
With its plaids shown clear,
Because it reminds me
Of my heritage
Of the men who came,
Built a new land
Leaving us a Republic
So that we could always
Keep freedom alive

Got mine via Google. LOL
Hopefully it will hold true here at Amy's Poetry and Potpourri.
The more you give, the more you get --
The more you laugh, the less you fret --
The more you do UNSELFISHLY,
The more you live ABUNDANTLY.
The more of everything you share,
The more you'll always have to spare --
The more you love, the more you'll find
That life is good and friends are kind . . .
For only WHAT WE GIVE AWAY,
ENRICHES US FROM DAY TO DAY

Beautiful opening post Just Amy!
Thanks for the heads up Misty, I'm not a poet so guess I'll be the one who supplies the potpourri (undried). :)
To: dixie sass
I believe that post 15 was a ping by MistyCA. She had it pulled because the graphic was very large.
Thanks for coming by this morning. Hope to see you often.

Howdy, sorry I'm late for the party! *ducks*
Every one seems to start their first posts with a poem, so here is one of my favorites:
In darkness let me dwell, The ground shall sorrow be,
The roof, despair, to bar,
All cheerful light from me.
The walls of marble black,
That moistened still shall weep,
My music, hellish, jarring sounds,
To banish friendly sleep.
Thus wedded to my woes,
And bedded to my tomb,
Oh! Let me living die,
Till Death; till Death do come.
