The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.

FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.

I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

Thanks for the ping.
I've noticed that FR IS rather poet and artist heavy.
It's weird, some will have you believe that all artist types are liberals.

Deep within your eyes,
the chaos of conflict.
Flares of firefights
in endless night darkness.
Fallen enemy, fallen friends.
Mental anguish while life
flashes by on autopilot.
Wind’s sandy kiss on
sunburned flesh.
Hunger aches deep
within your heart.
Reflections of desires
deep within your eyes.
Thousands of miles
distant, yet right here.
I keep you deep
within my eyes.
There you will remain
until you return
my soldier man.

The Storm at Morning

(Matthew 24:23-44)

Upon the mantle of the plains

A hundred miles beyond or more,

Where torrents fall and lightening flames

The clouds ascend and thunders roll.

Yet but few the hours past

We also knew this tumult's might,

The frigid blast and rattling hail

The tempest's summons in the night.

Now silent and how bright the scene

That is upon my sight impressed,

The fire and cloud that day preview

That comes from east and to the west

.......

And of that time---we know not when

The Trumpet's message will be tolled,

For all will see the lightening then

When He the balances will hold!

Bitterness

Perched on a post
in a place where no one wins
Typing slander on a keyboard
Outside looking in.

Holier than thou,
all-knowing amongst the mindless din
A legend in narrow minds
Outside looking in.

Harsh words where once was beauty
A new life unable to begin
Defame, complain, a bitter queen
Outside looking in.

In a humble world, the Bible says,
The haughty never win
Come down off the rocky pedestal
Or be forever outside looking in.

Our 15 year old pulled a similar stunt this year with a nice roast beef, but we found out almost immediately and shut down the oven, and once the oven cooled down we could open it. The beef wasn't ruined, either. But, boy, was I mad!

I will tell him your story and that may make him feel better about it!
