I started feeling better late in the morning and made my lunch appointment with a Chinese friend whose mother and sister are doctors in China. I was so curious about how SARS is affecting them there and she gave a full report, just having talked to her mother by phone before I got there.

Then when I got home just now, I had an extraordinary e-mail sent to me by LibertyBelt. This is from a Christian company in China that LB used to work with doing distribution and sales in America. I think it shows a really admirable response to SARS which is such a threat in China these days.

Dear ******,

New Day Creations is located in Qin Yun Dian, which is 20 Km south of Beijing. We are seeing SARS making its way to our village as well. But, rather than embracing the panic caused by this crisis we are seeing an opportunity to reach out and show our heavenly Father’s love to our neighbors.

As SARS is spreading throughout Beijing we too have been feeling the effects of this dreaded virus. There is one confirmed case in our village and four in the neighboring village. Our business has been requested to report to the local government every day, updating them as to any possible cases of SARS, among our 180 plus workers. People are encouraged to check their temperatures throughout the day and report any fevers and or coughs. People are becoming frightened and are buying any available disinfectants/masks/ vitamins and thermometers. These items are in high demand and are seemingly out of stock. Besides the obvious physical ramifications of the virus there is also a great economic concern, many companies are being forced to lay off workers because tourism is at an almost complete standstill.

People are scared. There is a sense of panic. There is an opportunity that we as New Day Creations eagerly embrace. Our goal is to put a comfort package into the hands of each family in Qin Yun Dian and the surrounding villages. We estimate that we will need over 10,000 packets. These comfort packets will include:

1. Up-to-date information on SARS
2. Masks
3. Thermometer
4. Disinfectant soap
5. Vitamin C
6. A carefully worded pamphlet sharing HIS love
7. Hot line phone number for people to call for information and comfort
Here is where you can help. At this time, it costs us $2.50 to put together this packet here in China. Also, some of the items are getting harder to source and the price keeps going up. We have arranged for donated items to be collected in New York and shipped together from there. Any masks, thermometers, vitamin C that you can donate will be much appreciated. We want to see these comfort packets in needy hands in the next week or two so time is of an essence. We would value your partnership in this endeavor. Let us know how you can help! We are eager to hear from you. Please let us know how you are able to help so we can plan accordingly.

Please contact: Brenda Wilford at Wilford@newdaycreations.com

Please mail checks to:

New Day Charities
P.O. Box 311671
New Braunfels, TX
78131-1671
Make checks payable to New Day Charities. In the memo designate SARS relief.

Send any packages for the above items to:

New Day, USA
Wilbur Zehr
952 Sherman Ave.
Bronx, NY 10456
We at New Day Creation see that SARS is an opportunity to be the hands and feet of our Father. As we endeavor to do the practical, we acknowledge that only HE can prepare a heart to hear the truth. Please pray with us that this seemingly horrific virus would produce a great harvest in the lives of those we live and work with. This, what the evil one has meant for destruction, our Father will turn to good.

Committed to being salt and light in our community.

We're scheduled to be in the states from '04 - '05. However, if our monthly support doesn't pick up immediately, we may be back this summer.

My vote is "Aye" for a ATRW gathering!

Heard about that no-hitter, Dog. Pretty early in the season for that, isn't it?

b4, Voinovich...Smoinovich! He's a liberal R from Cleveland. What more can I say?

Heard about the nonsense he spouted on Meet the Depressed this a.m., so he's going to hear again from me.

He's NOT getting the right message!

Oh! How about this little detail? Apparently he and his wife just got their FIRST dishwasher??!!

I can't believe the Braves traded away Millwood to the Phillies.

Congratulations Grammy. 2 boys. Great.

Miss M. I forgot to tell you about my first martini after Lent. It was GREAT.

Nita, I know you will get your puppy and Miss Pixie will be thrilled.

It's interesting watching the Galloway saga. I'm interested, too, about the U.S. file.

Here's an interesting thread ......

200 freed Iraqi prisoners of war leave desert camp singing and cheering for President Bush

It's amazing (or not?) that enemy POWs catch on more than so many in our own country!

about the U.S. file.

I wonder how many Dims are prepping their spin machines for those revelations.

Hey everyone. I am currently in the library working on a paper due tomorrow morning. Have I mentioned lately that I hate school?

The democrats here are alive and well. I have a class called Human Oddesy(sp?) taught by two flaming liberal feminists. I think I'm going to scream! It's almost over, though. My exams start this coming Saturday.

Got their first dishwasher, is that for real? A politician's wife who did her dishes by hand, or did she have someone do them for her? HHMMMMMMMMMMM

Wish it was me. My english teacher is evil! We're not having an exam per se though, so I can't hate him as much as I'd like. Still...ugh! I used to like writing papers.

I know an elected official who washed HER own dishes.

Not all politicians are slime. Some, but not all.

Good Luck on your finals, Honey. Son #3 is finishing up at Iowa State in Agronomy. He will graduate in 2 wks. and has only 2 finals,,, graduating Seniors are exempt from most exams.

He knows a kid who planned his final semester based on whether or not the profs required graduating Srs. to sit for finals.

I often wonder about our liberal americans. They seem to think America is a big bad wolf. The cannot say many nice things about America. They find fault and criticize everything that makes America strong. For all their fault finding, they do not seem able to find a solution. I wish some of these people could live in a country like Saudia Arabia, where there is really no freedom, unless you are of the royal family.

WOW! I hate taking tests, but I haven't gone to quite that extreme. I just am glad that Human Odessey(I still don't know how to spell that!) is coming to a close. The first semester was okay, but this one has just gotten more and more liberal and anti-religion every passing class. It kind of gets on my nerves.

I should go. It's six forty and I need to check out some books.

We just got back from a camping trip to the Outer Beach. Friday night it started raining and the tarp over the screened tent collapsed and the water poured in. But since the floor was waterproof it stayed in. EVERYTHING was soaked.

Then, it was overcast all day Saturday so nothing totally dried. Fortunately I had made some fire starters called trench candles and had no trouble getting the fire going for breakfast.

Sunday was better. Except that the waves were strong. Kyle and I were snorkling and a wave picked us up and dribbled us on the coral. We were washed up on the west end of the beach on the otehr side of a big rock. We discussed the best way to get back to the main beach; either climb the rock or swim back through the surf. Swimming seemed easier so I took off thinking Kyle was behind me. He was for a bit but got tossed around again. Anyhow, when I reached the main beach there was no Kyle. After two minutes of waiting, I swam halfway back and still didn't see him. So, I went to the shore to begin calling him and getting the others to help. Your dad arrived on the scene at this point and decided to check back in the surf. I wasn't too worried; Kyle is a good swimmer and he can climb. I just couldn't see him.

Before your dad got too far back around the rock, Kyle heard me calling and answered. Yup, he had climbed that rock and was starting down our side of it.

I did five loads of laundry as we unpacked at home.

Oh yes, we think we saw a herd of maybe 50 - 60 dolphins go past the beach.

I've got a paper to write by Friday. "Breads of the World". The challenge is to find references/information that Chef has not seen before. In my previous paper on sourdough, I managed to quote from the Emigrants' Guide used by the Donner party. I made 100 on that one. ;>)

Finals are next week, with the practical exam in the first two days of the following week. I have to eat my failures on that one.
