Time to end the dating game....

Posted on 04/18/2003 11:38:16 AM PDT by 1stFreedom

My friends unwed, 20 something year old daughter got pregnany recently. The young woman had an abortion, but thank God it didn't take. Now she is going to keep the baby.

The father is half way across the country and wants to have the baby killed. Typical man, want's the fun involved in making a baby but doesn't want the responsiblity of the results of having sex.

My friend is involved in the Church and pro-life activities. Her children were brought up pro-life. So how is it her daughter had an abortion??? How is it her daughter got pregnant in the first place?

Dating.

It all comes down to the fact that people, for the most part, cannot or will not control themselves. I know this from personal experience.

Letting your 20 something year old daughter travel across the country to visit a boyfriend is absurd. You can bet that about 90% of overnight visits by young adults involves sex.

In the past the problem of overnight sex romps was dealt with by sewing the man up in a sack that he couldn't get out of until the morning. Sounds silly? You bet, but, what would you rather do, do something silly or have a pregnant daughter and/or a dead grandchild?

In the past "dates" were chaperoned, providing little or no opportunity for intimate relations. The benefits of such "dating" is that once your jets cool, you can make good decisions about the other person.

Our daughters, even those into their 20's, need protection by parents. If they live at home, there needs to be rules about dating and men. One might think that this would scare away men. If a man isn't willing to abide by these rules, then what is he really after? Is he just after sex? If he is really interested, I bet he'll be willing to be chaperoned.

Friends need to chaperon friends. Double "dating" provides accountablity, peer pressure not to have sex, and it lessens the opportunity for sex.

Also, women shouldn't let a man in their home at all unless a parent is there.

Finally, tell your daughters that if they are pregnant, to tell you first before telling the baby's father. Have them invite the gentleman to your home, and have them tell the father there.

Why? Because more often then not, a man will arrange an abortion appointment. When the woman comes over he'll drive her to the clinc. This is what happened to my friends daughter. She went to his state and house and he drove her right to the clinic!

Never, never, as long as your daughter lives under your roof, ever let your daughter spend the night with a boyfriend. IF she thinks this is silly and does not abide by it, show her the door.

If you think this is silly, then you are just part of the problem. What is worse, chaperoned "dating" and protecting your daughters, or rampant abortion, AIDS, and children without participating fathers? Think about it really good.

So far, Dating is an utter failure.

Are YOU paying for her college education? Because if YOU are, then you have EVERY right, on certain things, to be asked PERMISSION. IMHO.

If a daughter is doing all you say at age 20 (incurring debt, going anywhere she wants, voting) AND as long as she is totally emancipated (LIVING OUTSIDE of THE FAMILY HOME on her own)....then I agree with you....but if she's still at home, then there should be some "conditions" that come with the arrangement.

I can't believe this melodramatic, idiotic article. let's call a spade a spade. your friend's daughter was a trollop

I can't believe it took so long to point out the truth. The word that popped into my head rhymes with 'bore'.

Why sew up the whole body in a sack when you can just use a condom?

"condoms" don't necessarily PREVENT pregnancy - I have a grandson that proves it.

Your' right it will go into the hundred's

Perhaps if this person taught the daughter the difference between men and boys (men don't participate in irresponsible behavior) and how to be independent the daughter wouldn't be in this mess.

Ok, I'll lay these conditions down to my daughters on their respective 20th birthdays. I'll inform them that since they live under my roof, I am in complete control of their dating activity and sex lives. Then the next week, they'll be living in a one room efficiency having sex with whomever they please, and also, not speaking to me. I WIN!

You're right, rubbers aren't the most effective contraceptive. The pill is better, but condoms are quite effective as long as you aren't drunk.

Darn, I was hoping it was maybe just me. I'm 26. I've really seen the *trend* pick-up since moving to Las Vegas...so I thought there might just be a correlation there. It's hard enough to find someone with an decent education here (and who can carry on a good conversation), then to find out (as you say) they are a whore...it's disappointing. Pointing out the stuff like "Girls Gone Wild" is legit. They not only epitomize though, they promote! More women need to realize that they really control everything in a relationship if they just approach it correctly.

I can't get on your for a typo after my "hisotry" remark. :p

Well anyone living under your roof must follow your rules, that goes without saying (hell I even put down the law for my mother-in-law, because it's my house dammit). But most 20 year olds aren't still living under their parents roof and I didn't get the impression that this one was either. I know my goal #1 on graduating high school was getting out by 21, I got out by 20.

Apologies to your teacher, but a lot is also a grouping of similar items. One can bid on a "lot" of items at an auction. In this sense it can be used to describe any number of similar items.

It is sometimes misused, and is treated as a singular noun. It is not a plural noun.

Your teacher was incorrect.

Totally agree. I too am in my 20's, I date a little, and sex, or the option of it, is normally how the evening ends. Now all of the "hollyer then thou" people might want to stop reading this post, but sex is ok. It's fun, it's can be great for the mind and body, and its natural.

Its a different world then what some of you people grew up in. If you want to your kids prepared for life you better teach them more then tying their shoes and table manners. Instead of just the once a week Sunday school class's, you better teach them morals and and how to act responsibly.

Man or women must be prepared for the actions they take and the consiquences that come from them.
