A call to prayer warriors to unite in "targeted" prayers - prayers aimed specifically at geographic areas of Iraq that are involved in heated battle (cities, towns, locales, objectives). Reason: In Old Testament God was specific in His instructions to those involved in armed conflicts. As we read or hear about battles going on in specific cities in Iraq or regions - we can unite to pray for the battles in these areas. We are not just fighting Saddam and his henchmen. There is a very real spiritual battle taking place because anywhere such evil has been allowed to fluorish as it has inside Iraq - "principalities, powers, and forces of darkness" take up residence in physical locales as well as inside the human beings dwelling there.

We are not able to defeat the legions of demons inside Iraq - but there is One who is MORE THAN ABLE to do so. We must engage in the conflict simply as being a front line prayer warrior - holding up a certain region before God in prayer and asking that the One who came to this earth to DESTROY THE WORKS OF THE DEVIL and who, while He was here, went from town to town, delivering people from the hosts of wickedness that indwelt them - displaying his supreme AUTHORITY OVER EVIL SPIRITS and DEMONS and SATAN himself - this One, Jesus Christ - and His Holy Angels would be present in power and authority to defeat the demonic hordes of certain specific locales involved in intense fighting.

Yes, we are praying for individuals in our military and for our general war effort and for the families of those involved and for our President and our leaders.

But we can also do STRATEGIC PRAYING FOR LOCALES in the "news" as we read/hear about setbacks for instance and/or areas needing breakthroughs - and that kind of praying is what I am encouraging with this post.

Merciful Lord, we pray You will protect and keep our troops safe from harm. Guide our men and women in uniform and give them strength to continue doing what is right; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

The tentacles of Satan grip and strangle Basra; but the power of the Lord surges like lightning up from the ground into those evil minions, shocking and loosening their grip. The sons of perdition fall back, confused by the blast, till they can be rendered up to judgment.

¹ Again I looked and saw all the oppression that was taking place under the sun:

I saw the tears of the oppressed-
and they have no comforter;
power was on the side of their oppressors-
and they have no comforter.
² And I declared that the dead,
who had already died,
are happier than the living,
who are still alive.

Heavenly Father, we see the tears of the oppressed people of Basra and we pray that they may find comfort. We thank You that hope has arrived for these people, in the form of coalition forces and particularly the British soldiers who are risking their lives that these people may soon know freedom.

Give the military leaders wisdom and clarity; strengthen those in battle against evil; and foil the hand of satan in this city.

Let it no longer be said that power is on the side of the oppressor but let it be known that Almighty God sees the plight of the people of Basra and has brought them comfort and relief from their lives of terror and fear and subjugation.

We ask that these things be done that You may be glorified. Amen.

Adding evening prayers, FYI, that God will bring utter confusion to the Iraqi troops, and either make them leaderless or think they are; unable to act, and deciding to lay down their arms and surrender.

May His shield of protection go before, behind and above our warriors, and make them victorious.

Welcome aboard the "Targeted prayer brigade". As we know from scripture that locales are inhabited by demonic principalities and powers - thank you for joining the prayer warrior effort for God to RETAKE the city of Basra from being a haunt of demons and demonic powers. As we pray and lift up the arms (in prayer) of those liberating that city, the 2nd largest in Iraq, from the forces of darkness - let's always be sure to be putting on the full armor of God every day and on all our loved ones and on those fighting for freedom in Iraq. The enemy is a roaring lion seeking daily whom he can devour. Our only sure protection is to be in that cleft of the rock, covered by the blood of Jesus Christ shed for the remission of sins and an inpenetrable barrier surrounding us and those for whom we pray. The gates of hell SHALL NOT PREVAIL against God's church and, therefore, we can be confident of His protection and deliverance - but we must entrust ourselves to HIM for that protection. Also, we can ask God to provide a "hedge" of protection around each of those praying and those being prayed for - the liberators of Basra and the oppressed citizens there.

Thank you again for joining this prayer effort. Basra continues to be a key city and battle for it is intense. Pray for victory in Basra by deliverance from the forces of darkness that have become entrenched there by the God of Hosts!

Thank you again for joining this targeted prayer effort. Please remember Basra today, the people there, the troops fighting to liberate that city, and continue to interecede on behalf of the liberation from all the hordes of darkness by God's mighty legions of Holy Angels - as well as liberating the city by the on ground warriors. We know that we do not battle against flesh and blood but against powers and principalities and all the powers of darkness. WE ARE NOT ABLE TO DO ONE THING HERE BUT LIFT UP THE AREA IN PRAYER, PRAISING GOD FOR HIS DELIVERANCE OF THAT CITY, AND PLEADING FOR ITS OPPRESSED PEOPLE. It is GOD who is at work - and we are simply working "with God" - because "with God" all things are possible. And in Jesus Christ, all the promises of God are yea and Amen. We plead for the city of Basra to be delivered from the enemy - not just the physical enemy but from "the enemies of our souls". Oh, Lord, drive these demonic forces out by Your MIGHTY and YOUR POWER because at YOUR NAME, every knee shall bow and because YOU oh Lord, have been given all power and authority in heaven and on earth and under the earth. We Praise You, Lord Jesus Christ, for your victory over all the forces of darkness at the cross! We commit this city to you and all your legions of angels and ask that, by your grace, this city will be cleansed of the demons from hell which inhabit it. In the powerful name of Jesus, Amen!

Heavenly Father, we lift up Basra to you. Please send your angels to protect the coalition forces and all of the innocent dwelling in that city. Watch over the soldiers and the besieged people. If it is Your will, Master, deliver that forlorn city to the forces of Light. Dispel the forces of darkness, cleanse the region of the evil spirits, and bring peace. Please, Dear God, enfold the wounded in your arms. Bring them to full health and give them the strength to recover and to praise Your Holy Name. Send your grace to the families of all of our brave fighters -- those who battle now as well as those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
