If he is going to say something new, why not do it in his speech rather than waiting to be prompted by a reporter?
To: ChicagoRepublican
Q&A still going on, but he named it very early on: The one question Hans Blix has to answer is, "Has Saddam completely disarmed?" If the answer is anything but an unequivocal yes, it's time to roll. That's my take, anyway...

This press conference is total garbage. I am a loyal and patriotic American...Bush is our President and I respect him as such, but if I were to say that I wasn't losing confidence in him I would be lying. He is looking more and more like his dad...
To: John Jorsett
WRONG! It was over within the first few sentences...same old garbage. WE KNOW SADDAM IS A THREAT...WE GET IT ALREADY!!!!!!!!
FOR THOSE WHO DON'T...THEY NEVER WILL!!!!!

Tryin' to draw an offsides. That risks a penalty for delay of game.

He keeps saying his job is to protect The American People. He said our oceans used to protect us, but now terrorists have made America a battlefield. Nothing said about keeping all the terrorist riffraff out of America. (I see vastly more Moslems around the Silicon Valley since 9/11.)
To: ChicagoRepublican
You're right. Pres. Bush said nothing. But perhaps what he intended to say when he first scheduled the press conference was preempted by events that we are not aware of. Anyway, it's a thought.
And by the way, wasn't it a delight to see that that old battle-axe, Helen Thompson, didn't get to as the first question?

That's my assumption too - we may know too much about these issues. Most people don't.

And this Canuk watched every minute of the SOTU address and I'm watching this. However, I'm becoming more p o'd with each question by the thumb sucking media. I just shouted A$$hole twice until my husband said, settle down!! LOL In all seriousness I too believe he is telling THE WORLD that immediately following the United Nothing vote that the war is ON!!

The fact is Bush is not a good speaker. My 13 year old even noticed that he needs to read every response. I would like for him to be able to present his points clearly and with confidence. The fact that he reads his response to questions the press asks also is a problem. It is obvious that the questions were screened in advance. I know not everyone is not a good public speaker but he really needs to work on it if he is going to succeed.

WRONG! It was over within the first few sentences...same old garbage. WE KNOW SADDAM IS A THREAT...WE GET IT ALREADY!!!!!!!! Fine. If it bugs you that he's having a press conference that doesn't satisfy you, turn off the TV. Those who want to see it can, and everyone else can tune it out.

What Was the Point of Tonight's Press Conference Equal time. CBS gave an hour to Saddam, so they owe Bush an hour.

LOL. Twice now I've heard one of the stock "Windows sounds" in the background. Maybe those contain the coded messages.

Bush is very somber. He knows how close we are to war. He knows that no matter what the UN does after Blix reports Friday we are going to war.
Whether we're waiting for the 101st to get its supplies offloaded in Kuwait, or some other units to get to their jump off point, we are going in real soon...
It doesn't appear Bush is waiting for diplomatic game to be played out. The timing is strictly according to the war plan.

The penalty for delay of game goes to Turkey. Those weasels have chosen the 7th Century over the 21st, it no doubt set our plans back a week or two.
Good thing is, we no longer have to suck up to them. They can deal with the Kurds on their own now, no American soldier has to die to protect some Turkey from a pissed off Kurd!
To: Willie Green
Yes, perhaps -- G-d forbid it.

The fact that he reads his response to questions the press asks also is a problem. It is obvious that the questions were screened in advance.I see no evidence that he's reading his responses. He's not looking down as he's answering, and there are no teleprompters in the room. I also doubt that the White House press corps would let pass without comment any attempt to have the questions submitted beforehand. This isn't one of Clinton's town meetings.
