The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I read it a while back and just remember thinking "Oh, I already knew all this!" From the reviews, I kind of thought that's what I might think too. So, I didn't want to actually PAY to think that. OTOH, it's intriguing. I really think perhaps I should have written the book first. I did give a teaching on it once.

My local (well, Dallas) talk radio station just had a parody of the Eagles song Hotel Califonia...... Hotel Oklahoma, all the dems hole up in the Hotel Oklahoma.

I feel like they are contaminating our state.

Thanks, Sam!
I finished Tad Williams latest. It was excellent, not as good as Otherland but satisfying. I was slightly disappointed with the ending, somehow, but not very, and the hero was kinda dense, but not too dense. Definitely a keeper!

I'll probably pick it up next time I'm in a bookstore, then, thanks for the review.

That is superb! You know, parents are supposed to pony up for special celebrations for that kind of performance ;-}

All - HOWDY!! Long time no see...I gave that book to my priest, who found it interesting. It doesnt quite go into the kind of depth that I would appreciate. its a bit too elementary in its discussion for me...but its a nice little item to have around.
Corin, for some reason my own link up with my own blog isnt working either, nor am I able to access my church's website...there's evil afoot in cyberspace tonite!! LOL Thanks for the notification, though!! Per your comments about WebCrimson : Yep...SAME HERE. Which is why I am looking at Verve.com. Hosting is as low as $5.00 a month, and I am going to set up with Moveable Type, which is fast becoming the preferred blog set up nowadays. Thing is, with our sudden decision to move to a new house, blogging has certainly been sidelined to once week.
As soon as I am able to get through I will eagerly read your blog!!
I have a bit of news that I can't help crowing about. Its really not much, as the poor lad (actually I have no idea how old he is, but my guess is younger than me!) is unable to access the Home Sweet Barad-dur site - I got a brief note from JRR Tolkien's g-grandson (??) Royd Tolkien, who apparently has set up a basic little site ostensibly to connect with fans of LOTR. He basically said he wasnt able to look into much of the website because he doesnt have broadband, but he indicated that he liked what he saw so far. Have sent him a note thanking him for visiting...and HOPEFULLY he will drop a note into our guestbook. I forwarded this to my partner in crime and told her we HAVE to continue this now...
Why does EVERYTHING have to happen at once???????????

Okay all, I have emailed the photo of the care package from the Hobbit Hole to my daughter to 300Winmag to post. So, I wanted to print the list of the items so you have a text list to go with the photo when he posts it. There is another package from the Hobbit Hole that will go out to my son-in-law when I get the books from 2J. I will post that photo and list then. This is Jill's half. Here's the picture. I cropped out some of the background to make it a bit smaller. It's a nice, high-quality big image. That may or may not be a problem for some folk, depending on bandwidth.

Thanks winmag. Now everybody can see. I've been over at that photo sight getting set up. Hopefully I might have photos on my personal page sometime this week.

Yeah, I thought they'd be more excited but they're really tired this week. After all, this whole year hasn't cost them a cent!
I think maybe it doesn't seem quite as huge a deal to them because my father worked through all four years of school, while being married with two small children, and he never got anything but As. So it's kind of expected. That's not a bad thing, and I know I made them proud, but Mom doesn't really relate, and Dad isn't very demonstrative. But he's proud of me and that's what matters to me.

Do they still have efficiency apartments now days? There are a lot of places that rent furnished, so she wouldn't even have to move her furniture right away. SSQ got one of those when he first came up to MA in Jan of 88. I was expecting Clare and didn't want to leave my doctor. We waited until she was born and the rest of us moved two weeks later. We lived in the furnished place for 6 more weeks until our house was finished. It was a very nice place; actually a good size place.
Look for 'Executive Apartments', and you'll find some, I'm sure.
