TAOS, New Mexico (Reuters) - Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts began her Fourth of July celebration with fireworks, marrying movie cameraman Daniel Moder on Thursday in a star-studded midnight ceremony at her sprawling ranch in New Mexico.
"I'm confirming that Julia Roberts has married Daniel Molder, but that's all we're saying for now," Roberts' publicist, Marcy Engleman, told Reuters.
The 34-year-old Roberts, who has been married once before to offbeat country singer Lyle Lovett, fell for the married Moder after meeting him two years ago on the set of The Mexican, released last year and co-starring Brad Pitt.
Last month Moder, 33, left his wife of five years -- make-up artist Vera Steinberg -- to be with Roberts.
An invitation was intercepted by reporters on Wednesday stating that an annual barbecue at Roberts' ranch was planned. All invited guests, including actors George Clooney and Brad Pitt, were asked to wear white linen.
Engleman said the wedding was attended by "close friends and family."
MIDNIGHT WEDDING
The wedding took place shortly after midnight, possibly to avoid the prying eyes of news media camping outside the $2 million, 40-acre estate in the tiny community of Arroyo Seco just outside the trendy mountain town of Taos in northern New Mexico.
A large white tent could be seen on the property, but bride, groom, and guests remained out of sight.
Roberts and Moder sparked rumors in April when both made their first public appearance together during the Taos Talking Picture Festival.
Residents of Taos treat the star like a normal neighbor and have repeatedly asked media to leave Roberts' alone.
Roberts married Texas singer Lyle Lovett in 1993, but they divorced two years later.
"Runaway Bride" star Roberts has bolted from several high-profile romances and her love life has been the subject of celebrity gossip reports for over a decade.
Roberts left fellow actor Kiefer Sutherland three days before their planned wedding in 1991 and ran off with Jason Patric. She has also been linked to Dylan McDermott and Liam Neeson, and last year ended a four-year relationship with actor Benjamin Bratt, who married actress Talisa Soto in April.
Roberts, one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood, won the best actress Academy Award for her role as a crusading legal aide in Erin Brockovich (2000). Roberts and her toothy grin have shone in numerous romantic comedies including My Best Friend's Wedding (1997) and Notting Hill (1999).
She cemented her position as a top star after appearing opposite Richard Gere in the romantic comedy Pretty Woman (1990) and later rejoined him in the movie Runaway Bride (1999) where she played the part of a woman with a long history of leaving men waiting at the altar.
Why is it always 'sprawling'?
sprawl
Pronunciation Key (sprôl)
v. sprawled, sprawl·ing, sprawls
To sit or lie with the body and limbs spread out awkwardly.
To spread out in a straggling or disordered fashion: untidy tenements sprawling toward the river.
Because I live far away from her.
"I love my wife!"
Welcome to FR. This sure is an old thread to post on to start with!
Uh, hello? We talk about public figures here.
And by the way, she DID attack us.
Ah, if my memorey serves me correctly, I think she said something like, "I found Republican in the dictionary between 'reptile' and 'repulsive'."
But, hey, how could anyone take that as a personal attack?
memorey = memory
Every such male sinner requires a female partner in crime. Julia Roberts is a homewrecker - a fine example of female morality, if you will.
Holy crap! A thread resurrected from 2002! LOL
Sheesh. Here I thought I was the only person without a date on Saturday night. At least I don't dig up three year old threads :O)
Bye!He/she/it's dead, Jim!
That explains why there is no mention of the twins. I was wondering about that.
