An octogenarian lawmaker infamous for screaming at journalists and sending a rude letter to a child is on the verge of losing her seat after more than 21 years.
Incumbent congresswoman for North Carolina's fifth district Virginia Foxx, 83, is set to lose her seat to Democrat upstart Chuck Hubbard.
Hubbard has so far taken home 139,034 votes, or 48.7 percent, while Foxx managed to get 138,935, or 48.66 percent, according to NBC.
At the time of publication, Foxx is just 99 votes behind, with more than 95% of votes in the district having been counted.
While a majority of counties in North Carolina's fifth congressional district were pro-Foxx, Hubbard comfortably managed to win Guilford county, the largest by a long way.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, she brusquely said she had not yet conceded to her opponent.
'The race hasn't been decided', she pointedly said, adding that she almost lost one of her first elections to a school board years ago before the results were reversed.
'On the night of the election, they told me I had lost. Then the next morning they called me back and said, "We misapplied 100 votes to one of the other people running. They really should have gone to you, so you won".'

Emily Mango Criticizes Rep. Virginia Foxx’s “Horrific” Reply to Son’s EV Essay
North Carolina mom Emily Mango has condemned 82‑year‑old Rep. Virginia Foxx (R‑NC) for what she called a “horrific,” “reprehensible” and “demoralizing” letter in response to her 10‑year‑old son Christian Mango’s school assignment
People
.
The school assignment and letter
Christian, a fourth‑grader from Greensboro, was assigned a persuasive essay on a topic of his choice. He chose to argue for $5,000 federal tax rebates for new electric vehicle purchases, citing environmental benefits and economic advantages
+1
. He mailed the essay to Foxx in a school envelope marked “4th Grade”
.
Foxx’s response
In her reply, dated May 1, Foxx:
Rejected the rebate idea, arguing it would take money “out of the pockets of hardworking people” who may not afford EVs
.
Cited six conservative news articles, including Wall Street Journal editorials, on climate policy and the national debt
.
Told Christian to “ask your teacher to explain propaganda to you” and said she suspected his teachers were “too interested in indoctrinating you” and “will not give you a good educational experience”
.
Closed with “How sad”
.
Mango’s reaction
Emily Mango posted the letter on Instagram and Facebook, calling it “horrific” and “reprehensible” and saying Foxx “attacked a child and attacked teachers”
Yahoo
. She said the response was “out of touch” and that her son’s essay was a school project with no political agenda, and that Foxx’s tone was “demoralizing”

Public and local response
Christian told Fox 8 he didn’t fully understand Foxx’s letter but felt it was wrong to criticize his teacher
. The exchange went viral, with the family receiving numerous media requests
. Local outlets, including The News & Observer, reported that Foxx’s office provided the letter to reporters
Well, she was right, but could have been gentler in her reply.
As a former school teacher, I hate leftist Democrats, especially those that are teachers and administrators with all of my complete soul and being. No remorse. Using the child for propaganda.
The defeat of RINO’s is a good thing. It’s the end of, both, the Republican Party and conservatism that’s going to hurt this country and the world, for a very long time. Republicans/conservatives won’t be able to recover from this massacre plus what The Left has planned for all who are against them, during the next several decades. Unless, of course, there’s a miraculous political turnaround, during the next two to four years by The Right. One of these scenarios is correct.
NOW—_GO AFTER MAXINE WATERS-—WHO DOESN’T EVEN LIVE IN “HER DISTRICT”
Conservatism was not rejected in this election. Faux-conservatism was, as it always is.
I don’t see where her reply needed to be more “gentle”. She did not attack the fourth grader. It would have been worse if she had played down why she opposed the rebate. That would have been insulting him when he showed genuine desire to engage with an adult about an important topic.
The RINOs tried to destroy the middle class over the last 40 years with the vice of globalist free trade and immigration. Now the socialists will return to the more traditional Marxist method of taxation and inflation.
But, with this large pro-leftist majority, the Right has no way to recover, unless the leftist overreaching is so bad that the majority of general election voters will see it for what it is and be able to vote, in the majority, for the return of the Right. Will the Left, even, allow future free and fair elections to occur? I have my doubts. No cheating by the Left? No finite abuses of power, by the Left? A lot of amazing things would have to happen to the Right, during the next two years, in order for a political recovery to occur. I, seriously, don’t see it happening. The energy by conservatives isn’t there, compared to the present energy by the Left, and leftist energy is going to continue to grow once they are, officially, in power.
“Mad” Maxine is who I was hoping they were talking about!
How you ‘serve’ your opinion makes a big difference in how it is digested.
4th grade…should the kid know his multiplication tables or argue for getting tax rebates on EVs? Sure the topic was his choice, from a list of propaganda topics the “teacher” provided.
She’s the grinch who stole climate change from little Timmy and his mother.
The only thing that was rejected in this election was legitimate votes.
CSpan junkies know Foxx as the chairperson of the House Rules Committee, meaning either every Tuesday or Wednesday she had an on-the-House-floor verbal wrestling match with the man who will likely be the new chair, Jim McGovern. She always lost; he is a brilliant orator, she is an old whiner. (Chip Roy was the only match for McGovern, but he is no longer available.) Even if she wins her seat, she should give up her ranking member position to someone with more oomph, maybe Nicole Malliotakis, or Kat Cammack, or Harriet Hageman.
Foxx is right.
The first 40 years of my life, the House was run by the Democrats. The next 32 years of my life, the House has been bouncing back and forth with miniscule majorities. Now it is likely to return to the next 40 year of being run by the Democrats, barring a miraculous intervention by a miraculous God. By that time both I and my children will be engaged in their eternal reward.
I have spent my whole life doing what I could to bequeath a free and prosperous nation to the future. If I have failed, it is not for lack of trying.
Big difference between Democrats then and Democrats now.
