Three minor earthquakes jolted across California overnight right along the San Andreas Fault.

The quakes registered in the mid-magnitude 2 range across Northern and Southern California on Sunday.

A small 2.7 magnitude earthquake was detected in Petrolia at around 4:31 a.m., followed by a 2.6 magnitude shake in Santa Barbara near 4:39 a.m, according to a USGS Latest Earthquakes Interactive Map.

Westley was also rattled with a magnitude 2.5 quake on Saturday night.

The red lines on the interactive map represent major tectonic plate boundaries across the world, with the line through California tracing the San Andreas Fault.

Should make a nice island twenty or thirty miles off shore.

There are multiple earthquakes everyday in Hollister California, but too small to feel, though they do register on a seismometer.

These fall under the category of normal daily activity on the San Andreas. Its the big ones you have to worry about.

No, it’s the San Andreas Fault. Finally, something NOT Trump’s “fault.”

We’re overdue for the big one and it will get bigger as time goes on. It’s not the three days of water and food we’ll need to save. We’ll all be on our own. I’m buying a gun.

I don't know who this Sam Andreas, but it's always his fault.

Santa Barbara is nowhere near the San Andres fault.

These minor quakes are a blessing in disguise. It helps reduce the built up stress and energy along a fault zone. It is when the fault resists motion for too long that killer quaked eventually occur.

The smaller ones prevent the big ones.

That has been the prevailing wisdom on an extensive fault like the San Andreas.

On poorly charted fault lines or those considered to be more inactive, the small ones could be pre-shocks. That's what happened near Ridgecrest/China Lake a few years ago in July 2019....Blip, blip, blip BANG!!

That one woke me up from my after dinner nap.

Nothing compared to the powder keg that we’re sitting on. The San Andreas Fault is holding hands with tbe Cascadia Subduction Zone. Be thankful for all of these little seismic hiccups.
