FOREST CITY, N.C. (WLOS) — An investigation is underway after a chemical exposure incident at a Chili's Grill & Bar in western North Carolina, officials confirmed.
The incident led to multiple people enduring chemical burns after consuming drinks that were prepared with a cleaning chemical mistakenly identified as salt, according to a press release from the Foothills Health District. This occurred at the restaurant's Forest City location.
The Foothills Health District said preliminary information indicates that on Monday, Oct. 26, an employee received a "granulated degreasing chemical" from a contracted worker power-washing the outside of the restaurant and put it in an unlabeled container. The container was then brought into the restaurant and left in the bar area, the public health agency said.
On Wednesday, Oct. 28, an employee preparing the bar for lunch service found the container and used it to prepare margaritas, believing it was sugar or salt.

To leave something like those chemicals in a container in a restaurant was an extremely stupid thing to do.
Was it deliberate?
Sounds deliberate to me...
"What's in this unmarked container? I have no idea what this stuff is. Could be sugar. Could be salt. Could be some dangerous industrial chemical. Who knows? Well, I'll just use when I make margaritas. It will be fine."
Both workers should be fired and blacklisted from food handling.I believe stupidity more likely than criminal intent thanks to lowered school standards.

Oh noes!! I love my Chilis non chemical burning margaritas.
“Wastin’ away again in Margaritaville · Searchin’ for my lost shaker of salt”.
The food service permit at the Chili’s location has also been reinstated after officials determined the restaurant met “all applicable food safety requirements” ... UNTIL the NEXT time they decide use an unlabeled container of granulated substance in their Margaritas ...
“Morgan and Morgan”
LOL! That’s so right!
As an aside.... I went to a restaurant and saw a tranny working in the back preparing food. I got up and walked out and when asked I said, “if that guy doesn’t even know what bathroom to use how can I trust him to know rat poison from flour?”
They were astounded I could be so horrible....
And looked here. Someone mixed up lye crystals for salt rocks.
Chili’s gonna lose mega-buckolas here. No one should put any chemical in unmarked container , even at home, unless one is willing to take responsibility for any damage. If I forget what I put in a container, and it has no label, I toss it out. Too bad for my pocket book.
I’ve always said that drinking is bad for you, but I wasn’t anticipating this.
So whatvwas the caustic chemical?
Sounds like a drain cleaner-type item.
And I had a Margarita at Chili’s just last night, but in Fremont Ca....dodged a bullet!
Some people claim that there’s a woman to blame.
