US District Court Judge Alvin Hellerstein, a Clinton appointee in the Southern District of New York, passed away at 92.
Hellerstein was appointed to the bench in 1998.
""U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein, a longtime federal judge in Manhattan who was overseeing the prosecution of deposed Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, died Wednesday morning, according to a court spokesperon," Politico reported.
Earlier this year, Maduro was indicted on four counts by a federal grand jury in the Southern District of New York.
Read the indictment here.
The grand jury indicted Maduro, his wife, Cilia Flores, and four others on four counts: Narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices.
Maduro and his wife pleaded not guilty.
Judge Hellerstein was overseeing this case and other high-profile cases.
Recall that Hellerstein rejected President Trump's attempt to appeal the New York hush money lawfare conviction.
In May, Hellerstein indefinitely blocked the Trump Administration from deporting Tren de Aragua gang members under the Alien Enemies Act.
His last name may be apt, but I’ll leave that to God to decide.
Unfortunately it’s the Southern District of NY. His replacement will be no better....

92 years old and couldn’t let go of the power that the gavel gave him. What the hell is wrong with people?
He was 92, why isn’t he retired yet?
Should have retired 30 years ago.
Judge Lightstone can now say hello to Jimmy Carter.
We need Term Limits for judges too!!!
Will require a Constitutional Amendment to do that............
Longest case of my career was in front of him. He was sharp even though approaching 90. Even though we lost ;).
I used to think the boomers were the ones that refused to give up the good jobs but damn, silent generation making a strong case for themselves.
A lot of silent generation folks have been still working in large numbers in congress and the senate but only just starting to drop away now...until last 10 ten years folks tended to mix up the silent generation with early boomers who hadn’t retired yet...now early genx’s are being confused with later boomers for the same reasons.(still working)
GenX starts in 1965, the oldest GenX are 61. I wouldn’t say GenX is clinging to their jobs too long just yet. In fact, after getting passed over for millennials in the leadership rolls, I think most GenX can’t wait to give their jobs to someone else as soon as they can.
“I think most GenX can’t wait to give their jobs to someone else as soon as they can.”
We’ve been ignored all of our lives, and we’ve come to prefer it that way.

Question: Why wasn’t he retired at 92?
Answer: Because he is a typical government employee. If he is still working, he gets 100% of his pay. If he were to retire, he would get about 80% of his pay. In other words, he is a cheap one as well as a rotten one.
He's retired now.

Call the Senate back and nominate a replacement ASAP
