French President Emmanuel Macron pressed ahead with a trip to the Arabian Gulf as violent riots rocked France, fueling fresh criticism of his leadership as his government struggled to contain the unrest.
What began weeks earlier as purportedly student-led demonstrations over classroom conditions escalated into widespread riots involving a range of political and ideological factions across France over the weekend.
Images and videos posted to social media on Saturday and Sunday showed groups of men waving foreign flags while engaging in acts of destruction on the streets of France's major cities. A Fox News Digital investigation found that communist organizations, Islamic advocacy groups, labor unions and environmental activists were involved in the unrest.
Amid this backdrop, Macron was planning a trip to the Arabian Gulf for energy negotiations. The chaos in his country did not dissuade him from traveling. He left for Kuwait on Sunday, shortly after denouncing the "unbridled" violence of the rioters in a nationwide address.
The French president, defending his travel to the Arabian Gulf, noted that heightened fuel prices were, in his telling, one of the causes behind the ongoing riots.
French officials say that they have arrested over 2,500 people in connection with the demonstrations. Though Macron acknowledges failures in security, he declined the resignation of his interior minister.

Macron bailing out of France during massive riots is several orders of magnitude worse than Karen Bass leaving Los Angeles for Ghana during the massive fires that city experienced.
Did he leave just after attending the Céline Dion concert?
I can’t believe he bailed out. Bad optics.
Ah. I thought maybe they meant the Gulf of America. Maybe he was interviewing for Raul Castro’s position.
Time to bring out the guioutine this is pure cowardice and dereliction of duty however you slice it he is running away huge betrayal to the French people
If ever there were a Frenchman totally deserving of an end by guillotine, Macron is that turd.
Are the “yellow vests” aligned with or against the antifa and Muslims? They are the only other large organized group I can think of in France. Since the government has abdicated the responsibility to keep order this seems like an opportunity for any organization willing to put down riots to gain power.
If I were a native Frenchman, seeing Macron do that would engender the attitude: don’t come back.
Time for the military to come out of the barracks and put an end to the Fifth Republic — just as they ended the Fourth Republic in 1958.
He’s obviously getting lots of ME money to sustain the failed socialist economy. Another reason Europe continues to stiff nato is it’s counter to ME ambitions.
Instead of ‘let them eat cake’... The new French is ‘let them burn’.
Marcon is a failure, but they keep electing him... So the French as a whole are a complete failure.
It shows the same lack of concern.
Huh? What a wimpy statement. I’ll bet Fox knows exactly what those “foreign flags” are. But if they somehow don’t, Fox should hire an expert to identify those flags.
This is his Marie Antoinette moment. What a surrender monkey.
Blaming Trump as he goes...
Macron says no one in the French government understands what is happening, but he is demanding an investigation... [then does a 180 and] says high fuel prices driven by President Trump’s war against Iran... is certainly the cause of the protests that have mysteriously turned violent for some unknown reason. Macron further notes those protests are righteous, justified and he agrees with them.
Macron bravely jetted off to the Middle East while his country is under siege, buildings are burning, citizens assaulted.
What an inspirational leader. Courageous. Selfless.
Kwah-Sahhhnt!
At least France has a large supply of white flags.
They burned down a building that survived WW 1 and WW 2.
What cowards. Macron is toast.
It’s almost too stereotypical to believe yet there it is
... just wow the French shouldn’t let Maracon back in the country
