A costly political blunder sent a Senate ad to the completely wrong Portland

You might have recently seen a political advertisement about Maine’s Senate race.

That’s because the advertisement mistakenly played in Portland, Oregon, instead of Portland, Maine.

The advertisement, paid for by Republican PAC Defending Main Street, decries “Taxin’ Troy Jackson,” the Democratic candidate facing off against Susan Collins.

Sarah Chamberlain, president of the Republican Main Street Partnership, said she was “very unhappy” about the mix-up.

“I’m really upset,” she said. “I cannot believe that this happened.”

More commies in Portland, Oregon than the whole state of Maine. Plus, even though it’s Oregon, they are still rooting for him.

Archie Bunker sent something to London England. Instead of London Ontario.

Of course, that was just a TV Show.

Far be it from young political hacks, repub or dem to know a thing about geography these days.

I doubt many could find Oregon or Maine on a map.

Any estimate about how much money was thrown down the sh*tter due to this mistake?

Maybe Stephen King can use this. He used Portland, Maine including listed in the fan site stephenking.fandom.com/wiki/Portland,_Maine.

Maybe the residents wake up to find they have traded places with the Oregon ones and are baffled.

RE: Archie Bunker....

I just remember the great sequence on the penalty.

Archie: So, you agree with me being in favor of capital punishment?

Edith: I guess I’m in favor of capital punishment as long as it ain’t too severe.

Rob Reiner had that problem with “Stand By Me.” Maine doesn’t translate that well to Oregon. We don’t pick wild blueberries, and I’ve got no clue what a cossie is.

As a lifelong Mainer, I sincerely doubt that there’s 1% of the voting public who has not yet made up their mind. We’re getting bombarded daily with Collins and Jackson political mailers. Same old dirt, nothing new.

In Chicago a campaign would assume normal business process could be relied on to do what was intended.

But the “Machine” would have plants in the business process. Very often in inconsequential jobs in the media, printing or signage business.

Also, opportunists would call and say “we just got a request from your opponent. How much to put in some embarrassing typos?”

If the advertising company, rather than the campaign, made the error, I’d suspect deliberate sabotage. The company should be footing the bill for running the ads in the correct market.
