Something Massive Is Hiding in the Kuiper Belt (And It's Not Planet 9) [20:26]
YouTube ^ | December 31, 2025 | Fexl

The map of our solar system has changed.

For most of history, we viewed our neighborhood as a tidy, organized place. We thought it was a simple system with eight planets orbiting a star, surrounded by a clean void.

We assumed there was a clear finish line where the solar system stopped and "deep space" began.

The Kuiper Belt proves that this model is wrong.

The solar system does not have a hard edge. It does not just end. Instead, it fades away into the galaxy.

What we once thought was empty space is actually a massive, chaotic frontier. It is populated by billions of objects that are far more complex than we realized.

Hey newbie, (unless you’re a retread) understand sarcasm.

The fool here is the person or AI who wrote the article, not a gravitational force in 5 words.

Boy,you do have a wide range of knowledge - deep knowledge in history and in space!

I’m going to guess - a Doctor Who fan too? :)

One wonders to what degree our deep space satellites are capable of collision avoidance. As things are, it sounds like a crap shoot. As Voyager’s creators age and die off, their machine becomes a living legacy.

How does gravity “push” something?

If an object gets too close it would be pulled into Neptune. If it’s not close enough to get pulled in it would be sling shotted away gaining some velocity.

But to say that Neptune would act like a snow plow makes no sense to me.

Re: "Something massive in the Kuiper Belt..."

Thank you, SunkenCiv.

You put in a lot of work on this post.

Almost every thing I read was new information for me.

My pleasure! Kuiper’s waistline must set some records. 😁

Thanks! The transcripts work better for everyone when they're split up like that, IMHO.

“They are hardened ice.”

Is that harder than regular ice?

The DNC and the DSA (which are identical) wants the Kuiper belt banned because of the ice.

Uh, yes, in a sense.

The hardness of ice is inversely proportional to its temperature.

If I assume “regular ice” is ice that most people experience, say, minus 50 deg. F at the coldest, then ice one would find on a small body out past Neptune, lacking heating from, say, radioactive decay or strong gravitational stresses, would be harder than the ice most people experience.

Note that the hardening “plateaus” around -100 deg. F. Colder than that causes only slight additional hardening.

Ouch!

Back to astrophysics, what took me a while to adjust to, as we explore out past Mars, is how much water is out there. It is a much different solar system than what was imagined when I was a child... That most of the water on Earth, when one considers the amount of it, came from comets, asteroids, and meteoroids paying Earth a direct visit, it kinda jawdropping.
