Converse apologizes for ad campaign image that resembled a Ku Klux Klan hood and a hanging body

After all the atrocities they have inflicted on this nation since their formation roughly 160 years ago, a white, unnervingly pointy hood evokes, without a doubt and without much room for interpretation, the Ku Klux Klan. So much so that even the slightest resemblance can make the hair on the back of one’s neck rise. A new ad campaign by Converse is proving that.

In late August, the legacy shoe brand began rolling out images from its latest campaign for the Chuck 70 X, a modern spin on its classic high-top. Weeks later, they are apologizing after one of those images is facing backlash from people who say it bears an unsettling resemblance to KKK and lynching imagery.

“We’re sorry. We understand why this image is deeply upsetting and recognize that we got this wrong,” the brand began in a statement to theGrio. “We removed it from our channels and are working to remove it everywhere it appeared. This should not have happened, and we will do better.”

Creepy, yes, but other than that?

People need to give it a rest.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Sydney Sweeney in a pair of Converse.

Advertising is expensive, without even imagining any symbolism that picture should have been discarded as a junk picture with zero appeal.

“Pareidolia: it’s not just for clouds anymore”

It reminds me of a cartoon. A psychologist is showing ink blots to Al Sharpton. In every panel and with each ink blot Al Sharpton’s answers with what he sees. “Racism, racism, racism.”

It’s not a hanging body. It’s a kid holding sneakers. Libs are so infuriatingly stupid, lacking a sense of humor and common sense.

Meanwhile, in the REAL world of lynching in this last week....

"Police in Jackson, Mississippi, have arrested and charged a man with homicide in connection with the death of a 29-year-old Black woman whose body was found hanging from a tree in August. "

You’re right, but we have to anticipate the liberal reaction to everything, anymore.

Looking to be offended by everything and anything must be a terrible way to live. I’m guessing if the shoe was on the other foot and it invoked images of Charlie Kirk or the Ukrainian girl in Charlotte it would all be good. It’s not being offensive, it’s who you are offensive to that matters.

If they give them free stuff, they’ll have those illegals voting dem for 200 years. And, likely some of them left actual dick taters to move here.

And then someone at the ad company thought it was a good one. And then convinced OTHERS it was a good one. And then sold it to someone at converse who thought it was a good one, and then someone at converse decided that the company should run actually it. I cannot, very honestly, understand it. Kinda like that bizarre Jaguar ad a few years back. Totally and absolutely bizarre. Perhaps that was the point of it, but it sure as hell didn’t sell any cars.

There are many, many absolute and literal idiots (a medical term now considered to be ‘offensive’) running around out there. It’s a wonder things aren’t even worse than they are in many respects, but it (the popularly celebrated conduct and notions of said idiots) does often make me feel as if I’m living in a weird, pointless episode of the Twilight Zone.
