Watch: 600+ Crocodiles Infest River to Host Brisbane 2032 Olympic Rowing

The land Down Under is known for hosting any number of creatures great and small that can kill you. Rowers competing at the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games will face that challenge after their event was approved Thursday for the waters of the Fitzroy River which hosts more than 600 saltwater crocodiles.

That’s not all.

Lethal Australian box jellyfish have also been found found near the mouth and tidal saltwater sections of the central Queensland river’s waters in the past. Add bull sharks and deadly snakes amongst its potential lethal predators in the water and along the banks.

Not that any of those are concerns for the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

In six years’ time, the 2032 Brisbane Olympics and Paralympics are set to stage rowing and canoe sprint events in this very stretch of water, the BBC reports, which has just passed a technical IOC-endorsed assessment and been endorsed as safe and fair for athletes.

Having reviewed the assessment, World Rowing president Jean-Christophe Rolland and Paddle Worldwide president Thomas Konietzko endorsed the waterway.

The ABC reports Rolland said it could provide a safe, fair and consistent field of play suitable for Olympic and Paralympic rowing and canoe sprint competitions.

Bill Bryson’s “In A Sunburned Country” addresses this with paroxysm-inducing hilarity.

It was designed by alien bioengineers to demonstrate that the planet was engineered by higher intelligence and not a result of random evolution. There is probably some bioengineers signature somewhere in the DNA. Along with the message, “Ha ha, the joke’s on you earthlings.”

Except they never seem to need saving. That’s my joke. We get this story every Olympics, usually for the next one, and yet things go fine. It’s one of those automatic stories the press just mimeographs off, and is usually not true. In this case the the river has tons of sporting events there, including rowing and canoeing, things seem fine. Yes there’s crocs, but apparently they aren’t that hungry and organizers in the region have learned how to handle.

"Except they never seem to need saving."

Yeah, I know. I was only hoping to have a reason to send Romney abroad for six years. He loves to boast about how he saved the Olympics, so he would be the man for the job.

And maybe even convert some of the crocodiles to Mormonism.

Hope nobody “catches a crap” while training on that river (Crew athletic reference).
