TDBANK IS NO LONGER ACCEPTING CASH TO PAY MORTGAGES AND HELOCS 0 Unbelievably this is true. Happened today to me. The tellers were so embarrassed.
Spoke with state authorities and left messages with federal. Can they do this with their charter?

... a bank can discourage or administratively limit cash for operational, security, or AML reasons, but a blanket, unjustified refusal of exact cash tender on an existing debt is not cost-free for the bank and can be challenged (document the tender carefully, e.g., with witnesses or written notice).
“Legal tender for all debts public and private.”
How is that done? Is there an attorney here who can work with this?
One of my big pet peeves are places that want to run cashless.
Cash is king.
There is nothing you are reporting here to make an opinion either for you or TD Bank.
So, deposit it and transfer. That’s what I do every week.
Apparently they’re under heavy restrictions due to anti money laundering issues.
The teller tried to put it through. It would not accept the cash.
I wrote them a check and I took the cash back to the credit union.
I just usually get cash from my credit union and drive it across town to pay the account. When I write them a check it takes too long for them to post it to my account. When I pay online I then have to go in to square away the screw ups because the software had a difficult time discerning s principle payment from a monthly payment.
Yes. Deposit the cash and transfer, write a check, bank to bank transfer, credit card, etc. Numerous ways to make a mortgage payment.
Better yet have no mortgage payment. Pay off the loan early and get out of debt.
Read below. They take a while to post and the transfers screw up.
I am a customer of long standing
I now have to show my ID to deposit and withdraw.
It is me.
I have been debt free for 25 years. Had enormous unexpected repairs recently.
Jerk.
TD Bank is a federally chartered bank with its headquarters in New Jersey. Usually you can go to a state banking commissioner and that is usually successful if you have an issue with a bank. Since it is federally chartered you can probably go to some office in DC to get their help. The banking commissioner in your state will tell you how to contact them. Be aware, TD Bank is a subsidiary of a Canadian bank. This may be related to the current tariff problem.
I talked to my state commission today. They were actually shocked to hear this.
I left messages in DC.
Is that even legal?
Yes. It is legal. I did it with my condo and saved lots of money.
Save the gas and hassle by paying online.
Done it many times. Just have to make sure there’s no prepayment penalties.
Good plan. I saw a short (fictional) video….an elderly woman wants to withdraw $5 from her savings account. Teller tells her she can’t make such a small withdrawal. After a short disagreement, bank manager comes out and explains it’s bank policy. So she withdraws $1,000. Then she immediately deposits $995.
