Worst guard dog in the world exposed by Ring camera in San Diego — and the breed [Golden Retriever] won’t surprise you

A California golden retriever apparently missed the memo on the whole guard dog thing.

A 90-pound pooch named Nash had an unexpectedly friendly reaction when a stranger allegedly broke into his family’s San Diego home, repeatedly bringing the intruder toys and seemingly trying to turn the bizarre break-in into playtime, per NBC 7.

The unusual encounter unfolded earlier this month in Sherman Heights, a neighborhood just east of downtown San Diego, while homeowner Dante Rowley and his family watched the surreal scene play out remotely through their home security app.

The stranger allegedly got into Rowley’s home near 20th and J streets by using a ladder to reach an open second-story window.

...

Two of the family’s three dogs were home, including Nash, their 4-year-old golden retriever who apparently saw the unexpected houseguest less as a threat and more as a potential new best friend.

Nash can be seen in the security video repeatedly approaching the stranger with a toy in his mouth, apparently hoping to get a game going.

My 100 lb German Shepherd would bite unless I called him off. I have a 6-ft fence and driveway gate on 3 sides down to the lake edge in my back yard. No one comes to my door unless I am expecting them. When I take my dog to Tractor Supply the employees always comment that he is the most well-behaved dog they have seen. But he is not protecting his territory at Tractor Supply,

When I was a kid, we had a pure bred German shepherd, that was definitely a guard dog, and there was little if any training on our family’s part. One time a city worker with a rake and a shovel approached my Dad and yelled at my Dad, and the dog jumped over the fence and grabbed the man’s arm. I understand he broke his skin. We had to let the vet keep him for a week, but he didn’t have rabies or anything else. He just let that worker know in no uncertain terms not to act that way with my Dad.

Double ditto that. My parents had GS and it would stalk around at a night protecting the home.

I remember something from an American Kennel Club article years ago about the Golden Retriever; “This breed’s gentle playfulness makes it an ideal companion for young children’’.

Apparently for burglars too.

They can be very ‘exuberant’. Just the wagging of the tail can do a real number on anything in its way.

Ready for Musk’s Olympus-at-home robot “Odin”, who picks up a piece of furniture and administers the beatdown to the break-in until the coroner arrives. Social media views ++$$, and that pays for the attorneys. Before 2030 max.

Then after the break-in by the 'artist and all-around good guy, in fact -- who, using his ladder, would help anyone to anything and everything' is neutralized, "Odin" plays with the Golden and takes requests on the livestream.

"Odin" even auto-files the Report against the GoFundMe immediately set up by the ladder artist's baby momma: "Gimmedat Fun'ral Monies" slush fund for "Dat no-good ladder artist"; having been immediately alerted in realtime by Ring's facial recognition that her baby daddy was committing yet another "ladder-and-enter".

Hell yeah. The tech is in place NOW, minus "Odin", although the Chinese are damn close to a prototype and for this specific mission. Enabots for surveil and coordination; and let loose the robot dogs! Schadenfreude!

My golden chewed through a wooden gate to surprise a burglar who left tool marks on my back door and decided to rob the (dogless)neighbor instead. That wonderful dog got a cheeseburger that night.

Golden’s don’t have a mean bone in their bodies. They’re sweet, lovable dogs.

Mine would lead them to the pantry to where his treats are and once fed he would let them have want they want as well with a wagging tail before he falls asleep.

Special pets, no? Our Sam was a sweetheart, unless someone went after one of us. Then he’d show his teeth (or more)!
