The incident occurred on the evening of Aug. 29 when a golfer at San Joaquin Golf Course confronted a man who had reportedly run across the course, according to investigators with the Irvine Police Department.
“The golfer tried to get away in his golf cart, but the suspect caught up, took a golf club from the cart, and struck the golfer in the head,” investigators said. “The suspect then fled the area.”

I’m alright
Nobody worry ‘bout me
Why you got to gimme a fight?
Can’t you just let it be? (I’m alright)
That was a great and very underrated movie IMO.

It would be interesting to know just what “confronted” means here. Was the golfer just trying to have a polite conversation with the man? Or was the golfer screaming and yelling?
As Billy Joel once said, “ You should never argue with a crazy mind. You oughta know by now.”
Anyway, the golfer would have been wise to carry police-grade pepper spray (everyone should). Fox and Sabre are good brands.
My first thought, too.
Those pictures are pretty clear.
I can’t imagine someone doesn’t recognize that lunatic
“ Was the golfer just trying to have a polite conversation with the man? Or was the golfer screaming and yelling?”
Oh, thanks. I forgot about the law that permits you to chase someone down and whack them in the head with a club if they yell at you.
I carry on the course, but then I carry everywhere.

Mind if we play thru?
WHACK!
I guess that’s a no.......
You have got to be a little tightly wound to go to all that trouble.
This guy had to chase down someone and hit them with a golf club for a verbal insult.
Making the guy run away like a little girl wasn't enough.
This guy should not be free to run across golf courses.
He needs a special room in a special place for his particular kind of loony.
I know that song!
There is such a thing as situational awareness.
And I never said that it was okay to chase down someone who yells at you. So please, let’s keep the conversation fair.

That’s good policy. Unfortunately for this golfer, he was in the great (and soft fascist) state of California. Might be a bit tough to get a permit there.
However, I’m told that it’s easier than it used to be. So there’s that.
If that’s a phone in that guy’s hand, the cops should be able to identify him from cell phone tracking.
Need more info, I mean, slow golfers are terribly annoying.
“There is such a thing as situational awareness”
Agreed. Having said that, I’ve known my share of golfers all the way back to the team at my high school.
Some of them certainly can be an upity lot.
Visited a cousin years ago. Lives on a golf course.
“That must be nice - walk out the back door and go golfing.”
“I don’t golf. I fish. The best trout stream in the world runs through the golf course. Although I do get some funny looks sometimes with my waders and fishing gear.”
I think it is on the Madison River in Montana.
