The CEO of Buc-ee’s says the beloved convenience chain will focus expansion on conservative states as the beaver-themed brand faces scrutiny over its repeated trademark lawsuits.
Arch “Beaver” Aplin III, also the Texas chain’s co-founder, made the remarks last week during the grand opening of Buc-ee’s first Arkansas location in Benton.
"We have a lot of opportunities. We're growing. We're building in a lot of places, but when you find a conservative, business-friendly state with a phenomenal workforce, it makes a difference," Aplin said in a video shared by Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders on social media.
"And I'm starting to realize life's too short to try to build in places that people don't appreciate what you're bringing versus a place like this, where people do appreciate what you're building,” Aplin added.
He then explained that Buc-ee’s-worthy locations must meet three of the brand’s key values.

As to business in blue states, how about a means to mail stuff. There are loads of stuff I’d like to order online for delivery here in CaCaLand, but cannot because of state laws.

Could a lawsuit get filed? Maybe. When the monthly, or quarterly invoice, for legal services, costs, and expert witnesses, arrives at Company HQ, and even more certainly, when Company HQ is notified by the law firm that an exec has to sign off, under penalty of perjury, on the discovery responses the law firm has drafted, or that an exec has to sit down for a six hour deposition, under oath, or that at least one, and preferably more execs need to travel to wherever the lawsuit is and be present for the jury trial, because jurors don't take it well when they have to show up for trial, and the company can't be bothered to send execs to show up, I don't believe that it is remotely possible for a lawsuit to proceed, without the company being behind it.
People who know nothing about litigation, except what they see on the internet/TV, and who consider these lawsuits to be both unnecessary, and oppressive, but like Buc-ees, are trying to make Buc-ees the innocent victims of their own attorneys.
They have a duty to protect their trademark otherwise they risk losing it.

Almost 20 million people live along I-35 and I-45 in Texas between DFW-San Antonio and DFW-Houston.
That’s their bread and butter.
What Buckee's fears most is if Beaver Mart adopted the same big store business model and color scheme and expanded its operations. Even if the logos and names were unchanged, the similarities could let Beaver Mart poach a slice of Buckee's patronage and good name.

However they just opened another Buc-Cee’s in San Marcos. Just 20 miles north.
I live west of Boerne. Where the rich uptight bastids have been fighting a new Buc-Cee’s for years. But finally construction is due to start this year.
We went to the Burger Boy on UTSA Blvd a few weeks ago. No wonder the sign was familiar!
I had to drive down to Houston on business last week, and stopped at the one closest to Houston. It was busy.
