The CEO of Buc-ee’s says the beloved convenience chain will focus expansion on conservative states as the beaver-themed brand faces scrutiny over its repeated trademark lawsuits.
Arch “Beaver” Aplin III, also the Texas chain’s co-founder, made the remarks last week during the grand opening of Buc-ee’s first Arkansas location in Benton.
"We have a lot of opportunities. We're growing. We're building in a lot of places, but when you find a conservative, business-friendly state with a phenomenal workforce, it makes a difference," Aplin said in a video shared by Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders on social media.
"And I'm starting to realize life's too short to try to build in places that people don't appreciate what you're bringing versus a place like this, where people do appreciate what you're building,” Aplin added.
He then explained that Buc-ee’s-worthy locations must meet three of the brand’s key values.

He said Buc-ee’s does best where those values are reflected not only in the local community but “from the very top” of state and local leadership—governors, legislators, mayors, and representatives. In that remark, “conservative” was being used in a political/governance sense rather than as a description of the store’s merchandise or operations.

You’d have to be a TOTAL IDIOT to locate or expand a business in a Blue State. In fact, it’s hard to feel sorry for the ones that refused to read the OBVIOUS tea leaves and invested in those states.
Buc-ees is a bit over zealous in protecting their trademark
The corner stores beaver looks nothing like Buc-ees logo.
The store’s name is derivative of the towns name.
There is no chance of confusion between the two businesses.
But it will take millions of dollars for the local store to fight a mega corporation like Buc-ee’s
It really doesn’t even need to be “conservative” states. Just sane states with normal policies that aren’t out for blood against businesses and which don’t view businesses as the enemy. There are Blueish states like Pennsylvania where the Democrats are more conservative than the national lunatics that are not business unfriendly. And there are “conservative” states like Texas that still have laws in place that make them a plaintiff’s attorney bonanza.
Dumb move.

I question I have is what happens when a conservative state is no longer conservative. Does he close up shop and pull out? Bet he won’t.

Did the Mom and Pop design the logo AFTER the rise and success of Buc-Cee’s?
If so - they should get sued. If the Mom and Pop was there first? Leave them alone.
Years ago, before Burger King came to Texas there was a fantastic local burger joint in San Antonio called Whopper Burger. Had a half dozen or so restaurants.
And when BK showed up, there was no question that Whopper Burgers could continue selling under their name.
In other news, I would be happy to trade a few million illegals, "refugees", and liberal white women for just 2 Bucees; and some Chik-Fil-A's. (At least 2, just in case some peace-loving liberal decides to torch one in protest).

And people in blue states pay more for that stuff too. Because people in blue states vote for idiots who oppose capitalism in favor of socialism. Which means companies like Buc-Cee's have to pay higher costs of labor and salaries while earning less profits.
Would you want to move to Massachusetts, New York or California with it's crime, high taxes and unAmerican values? So why would Buc-Cee's want to do business there?
It makes no difference.
Their logo is of a real beaver, not a cartoon beaver wearing a hat.
There can be no confusion.
There can be no reasonable infringement lawsuit.
This is a lawyer pumping billable hours.
People who live in a blue state and go elsewhere for any reason vacation might be happy to pencil in one or more stops at any/all Buc-ees along the route.
Case in point: Dollywood is on our bucket list.

Spoken like someone who has never run a successful business. Regulatory burden is a serious factor in business decisions.
Phillips and Valero didn't shut down their California refineries because folks in that state quit buying gasoline. Did you consider those to be 'dumb moves' as well?
