This is how a narrative is built. As Twitchy reported, the wife of a U.S. Navy sailor who allegedly tried to jump overboard somehow came into contact with Natalie Oliverio, a reporter with The Military Times (which is not officially affiliated with the U.S. military). Oliverio published a piece that made it sound like sailors were jumping from the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, port and starboard. The ship's deployment was supposed to end in May, and The Military Times made it sound like the extra three months had many sailors attempting suicide.
CNN's Erin Burnett picked up the story and amplified it, interviewing a sailor's wife. "Multiple U.S. sailors have reportedly tried to jump overboard the USS Abraham Lincoln amid poor conditions as the Iran war extends their deployment," Burnett posted to X along with the video clip. How many is "multiple"? The Military Times story gave two anecdotes.
Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao put out a statement indicating that "a small number of mental health cases were treated with no loss of life" during the ship's 266-day deployment. Sounds pretty standard among a crew of 5,000.
The New York Times is reporting on Thursday that the Abraham Lincoln headed home to California.
A day earlier, The New York Times had put together a video of a conversation with a family member of a sailor stationed on the Abraham Lincoln.
To be fair, she follows that up with "no port calls, no feet on the ground." You'll never believe that, in the full video, The Times reports that Erika Vandermeer second-guessed her support for President Trump when the Iran War kicked off.
Understandably, family members of any U.S. service member deployed would be concerned about them. But for one or two attempted suicides to have blown up into a weeks-long media narrative involving CNN and The New York Times is ridiculous. It's a transparent attempt to reduce morale among the public.

Back in dec 68 and jan 69, we watched as 2 guys climbed over the fence to escape San Diego boot camp.....lol.....they were both met by Marine corp security and taken into custody and i’m assuming discharged within a day or two.....likely happened more than those 2 times we saw it happen from our barracks...no one in my company tried that but we did have one guy who had a real “attitude” , he was eventually removed after a few weeks and last we heard he had been discharged as well....
Anyone else familiar with him on this thread?
I don't watch him religiously, just once in a while over the years, and although I found his commentary fairly level (and interesting) most of the time I would occasionally get sniffs of liberalism in his videos he has on his channel. Not a huge amount, but after one has dealt with Liberals and Leftists for a long time, you can smell it right out of the gate when you hear it.
I watched one of his videos recently about this subject, and I was disconcerted to hear just that kind of leftism:

When I watched this, it made me angry, because I detected that "sniff" of leftism from this former Navy officer.
Is anyone else familiar with this guy's work? I am asking, because I just got an email from a friend of mine (who went in the Navy with me) saying that this man had another video he just put out, and he thought it was the same thing, pushing the Lefist narrative as an attempt to attack both Trump and Hegseth (as well as the Navy)

He is knowledgeable and understands detail about these things having been involved to a degree in his naval career, but in the first video from him I saw on this subject he came across as someone who has experience, and is likely getting back-channel information from like-minded people currently involved, and does speak openly with current active duty personnel who may be restricted (for obvious reasons) in what they can say.
I find his videos interesting because he clearly knows many aspects of deployments that many of us simply don't.
His dislike of Trump (and I assume, Hegseth) from his previous videos makes me think he takes pains to make the points of those critical of the administration while ignoring any of the strategic considerations of why we are there to begin with. He seems to me to be constantly focusing on everything negative from logistics deficiencies, morale, and family hardships due to long deployments, and in the end, is serving the purpose of people who wish ill on this country.
I am not saying he is one of those people, but due to his personal dislikes, is serving the purposes as those who do wish ill on this nation.
Just curious. These are long and in depth videos that won't be of interest to everyone, but to those who value this kind of "non-30 second discussion" they are of great interest. I was wondering if anyone else had seen this.
That is EXACTLY what they sign up for. My son spent 9 months in the Red Sea, and another 10 months at sea last year. This year his ship is in the yards, but likely going out in October again. He has yet to experience “shore duty” in his first 6 years. And he just re-upped. DIL was on a carrier. In the ocean. Somehow, we were not taken by surprise.

My brother the same, the minute he turned 18. As his younger sister, I was convulsed with envy. Women weren't allowed in the fun/travel/adventure/warfightin' part of Navy then—a couple of years before Vietnam.

You join the Navy to get stuck out in the middle of the ocean, or behind a desk ashore or wherever else the Navy needs you to be.

The guys who joined the Army did not join to be marching around in the mud carrying heavy loads either!
And the guys who joined the Air Force did not join to have to work on planes and smell jet fuel all the time!
And the guys who joined the Coast Guard did not join to sit out in the heat to arrest smugglers!
And the guys who joined the Space Force.... Yeah, I don't actually know what they do but I pretty much guarantee that there is a bunch of stuff they do that is not at all fun either.
And one more thing-Ward Carroll was all in on Ukraine and full support of Ukraine, both personally and nationally, and that was kind of when I lost interest in following him when he put out a video about “The Ghost of Ukraine” a Ukrainian fighter pilot who supposedly shot down five planes in a single day.
It was later found to be a hoax, and to his credit, Ward Carroll did issue a follow up which, while not really a retraction or and apology for misinformation, was a clarification that did note “The Ghost of Ukraine” was not a single person but a created one for propaganda purposes.
The reason I post this is that I watched his posts fairly frequently, but when I saw his initial video on “The Ghost of Ukraine” it had already been debunked, and I didn’t realize he put it out before the debunking.
But that was when I stopped following him as closely as I had.
To be fair, the land Navy isn’t stuck in the middle of oceans .

Reassignment surgery and perpetual medical care for the complications of such or of getting all the awful diseases treated to which homosexual men are prone. Both categories are mostly undeployable because of their recurrent medical needs.
Maybe you recall that dingbat Cindy Sheehan who made a national spectacle of herself whining about her son's deployment in Iraq. Her son was humiliated by her and made a statement that he did not share her anti-Bush, anti-war sentiments. I was volunteering with the DC Chapter at Walter Reed at the time. The mother of a wounded solider I met in the hallway told me that her son had firmly bawled her out about never doing anything like Cindy Sheehan!
