Mother of Navy Sailor Tells NYT ‘They Didn’t Sign Up to Be on a Ship in the Middle of the Ocean’

VIDEOS AT LINK...............

This is how a narrative is built. As Twitchy reported, the wife of a U.S. Navy sailor who allegedly tried to jump overboard somehow came into contact with Natalie Oliverio, a reporter with The Military Times (which is not officially affiliated with the U.S. military). Oliverio published a piece that made it sound like sailors were jumping from the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, port and starboard. The ship's deployment was supposed to end in May, and The Military Times made it sound like the extra three months had many sailors attempting suicide.

CNN's Erin Burnett picked up the story and amplified it, interviewing a sailor's wife. "Multiple U.S. sailors have reportedly tried to jump overboard the USS Abraham Lincoln amid poor conditions as the Iran war extends their deployment," Burnett posted to X along with the video clip. How many is "multiple"? The Military Times story gave two anecdotes.

Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao put out a statement indicating that "a small number of mental health cases were treated with no loss of life" during the ship's 266-day deployment. Sounds pretty standard among a crew of 5,000.

The New York Times is reporting on Thursday that the Abraham Lincoln headed home to California.

A day earlier, The New York Times had put together a video of a conversation with a family member of a sailor stationed on the Abraham Lincoln.

To be fair, she follows that up with "no port calls, no feet on the ground." You'll never believe that, in the full video, The Times reports that Erika Vandermeer second-guessed her support for President Trump when the Iran War kicked off.

Understandably, family members of any U.S. service member deployed would be concerned about them. But for one or two attempted suicides to have blown up into a weeks-long media narrative involving CNN and The New York Times is ridiculous. It's a transparent attempt to reduce morale among the public.

Land sharks are a horrendous danger.
President Joe Biden and Vice President Otto Penn proposed a $50 billion program to educate Americans on the danger posed by land sharks .
Hunter Biden formed a non profit to carry out the mission .

I spent the last 7 weeks prior to my retirement passing out basketballs at rec-services at Dam-Neck.

My son was on an oiler. The skipper bought the ship a telescope and taught astronomy classes. A calm night showed jaw-dropping star fields.

Honestly, I love my brothers and sisters in uniform.

I just can’t rustle up a lot of sympathy for complaints about a 200+ day deployment for anyone other than Marines or Army.

On the ground 350 out of 365. MREs. Limited water. No bathing. No hot chow. No electricity. Limited communications. Until months later.

Could have joined the Air Force or the Navy, but I wanted to be in the military. (/sarcasm)

PS: I also have the highest respect for Coasties also.

“”IFYKYK””
I know that’s “shorthand” for something but I don’t know what...I don’t do social media or text so I’m out of the loop.

My husband didn’t take long walks in the woods. I don’t think they were aware there were woods - they were on an isolated radar site with nothing to do but pay attention to the radar scope - watching for Russian Bisons and Bears. They weren’t allowed to leave the base to go into Reykjavik
so it was pretty boring off duty and the 24 hour daylight made it worse. Most tales were left untold...

I remember in the 70s the USN had ads that ran like "The Navy - It's not just ships at sea.

Then, in the overseas t-shirt print shops we had t-shirts printed up with that on the front.

On the back we put a picture of the stern of a carrier sailing into the sunset and the line "But mostly it's just ships at sea!."

Yes, I do recall Cindy Sheehan but I have to be truthful and say that I don’t remember the details. It is really difficult as the years roll on and on just how much news is pedaled to us. Our brains are like filing cabinets, they just get TOO FULL.

I’m going to assume when you mentioned the DC Chapter, you were talking about FReepers... Even some of those old names don’t come to me now. I suspect that most mothers would have been surprised that they were getting a “lecture” from their own child instead of the reverse. It wouldn’t be easy to do but when the situation calls for it, it has to be said.

Thank you for your volunteer work at Walter Reed...OR anywhere when our military is the objective....

They didn't complain.

Of course they did.

There is a saying that is true in all military's of even semi-free nations, all branches, all times, and that is "if a troop is not complaining he is dying". That is the cleaned and sanitized for your protection version. The one I learned was a bit obscene.

So they complained, but, they did their jobs.

And their support system at home did not say stupid things to the press and the press would not have printed it if they did. That is your real difference.
