Twenty soldiers in the U.S. Army's 9th Brigade Engineer Battalion at Fort Stewart, Georgia, have already reenlisted to cash in on a four-day pass to play Grand Theft Auto VI when it's released by Rockstar Games this fall.
CBS News reported that the battalion, part of the 3rd Infantry Division, is offering the special leave as a reenlistment incentive tied to the game's Nov. 19 release.
"The idea was to have a unique incentives program that connects to what soldiers are interested in," said Lt. Col. Angel Tomko, a spokesperson for the 3rd Infantry Division.
"The command team, in conjunction with the career counselor, wanted to get soldiers excited to reenlist," she added.
About 130 soldiers are currently eligible for the incentive, Tomko said.
Eligible soldiers must sign a reenlistment contract for a minimum of two years and up to six years.
A memo circulating online states that any soldier who signs a reenlistment contract between Aug. 1 and Nov. 14 will be authorized the four-day pass, timed to "the highly anticipated release of the video game Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6)."

Whatever turns them on.
Not my thing, but I'm a dinosaur.
Has it changed that much so it's actually fun now?
What about "Cowboys and Muslims instead"?
What a ridiculous world we have turned into.
Apparently you at some points in the game do things like go on mission to hire prostitutes, graphically have sex with them, then graphically murder them by hacking them to pieces afterward. Nice, wholesome stuff that somehow avoids a rating of “Adults Only.”
Why not just send a case of booze to the barracks followed a couple of hours later with a half dozen hookers and some music to get everyone going, followed by a sexy female recruiter to collect signatures.
It would be better if they re-enlisted based on reflecting on what they want to do with their life.

For the right audience, it probably is a lot of fun. I don’t play it, but I get a kick out of how some people are able to troll in the game by becoming an innocuous object that just sits there and wait for other players to walk by before blasting them.
Well, neither of you have described anything about it that sounds like any “fun” to me.
It isnt a game that I am interested in playing. I just like watching trolls.
I also saw a video of a player who took the appearance of a gold cupid and placed himself on a domed building, in Fortnite, he did the same thing. It is trolling I like watching.
They should have allowed the leave to tour the Smithsonian instead.
But that would be high quality. I’m not sure playing GTA6 will really give that whole “what were doing this for” vibe.
Fun story. While I never enlisted I was a contractor for the dod (I.t. work). I grew up and lived most of my life in and around NYC with the 18 year old attitude that the US sucked ass. I could never figure out why people would enlist or sacrifice themselves for it. Then I drive to Colorado springs to start my work and on that trip “I got it”. This country is beautiful. And if not for the love of the citizens (which I also get) then just for the American landscape alone.
I think mandatory trips to the Smithsonian would be better.
Yea that is exactly why I never played it.
Maybe this is part of the problem:
...Lt. Col. Angel Tomko...
I very much enjoyed playing the rabbit in GTAV armed with sticky bombs.
Then they got rid of the sticky bombs and made other changes which prompted much frustration & lost interest on my part.
I’ll check out the new one if I can qualify the hardware expense, but their gross delay in the release of VI has tempered any enthusiasm I once had for a game that helped immensely with stress management (fantasizing about the victims being dems certainly helped).
