He didn’t hedge his marital bet.
The wife of a billionaire hedge fund mogul has gone to court seeking a $6.2 billion slice of his massive fortune — but he allegedly offered her just $633 million in what is the largest divorce battle in New Jersey history, a report said.
The bombshell breakup between John Overdeck and his wife Laura Overdeck — who married without a prenup during the infancy of his Two Sigma Investments firm — kicked off Wednesday in a Newark courtroom.
Laura Overdeck is seeking a 35% piece of her hubby’s stake in the $80 billion firm, which her lawyer said was worth $6.2 billion, along hundreds of millions in bonds and equal control of the family foundation, Bloomberg first reported.
However the wife’s camp says that he made her the low ball offer of $633 million, which they call “as little as possible.”
“John Overdeck is trying to put the genie back in the bottle,” Laura Overdeck’s attorney Theresa Lyons said in court, according to sources.
The heart of the trial — which Lyons noted in court was the Garden State’s biggest contested divorce — comes down to whether Laura Overdeck can claim her husband’s stake in Two Sigma as a marital asset.
As the company and fortunes grew, John Overdeck conspired with the couple’s lawyers to hide assets from his wife as he plotted for divorce over 20 years, Lyons argued, according to the sources.

Even Laz would hit that
I’m glad I’m happily married. Couple fights over cat box is an embarrassing headline.
Donates to GOP.
Just maybe, if she tries real hard, she can ‘scrape by’ with the meager sum of $633 Million. It’s not like she will only have access to Govt. Rations of butter, bread, milk and raisins. Oh, and Spam.
I have a friend who’s been married multiple times. He’s of the opinion that he should have saved time, drama, and legal fees by skipping the marriage and finding a woman he hated and giving her 1/2 of everything he owned.
Ask for $6.2 Billion, settle for $2 billion.
The only harder work she ever did was lying on her back and thinking of England.
Behind every successful man is a woman, with her hand in his wallet pocket.

20 years?!? I suppose she was pretty good in bed at least at first. But 20 years is a long damn time.
Who doesn't?
Wow. Just squabbling over a few tens of billions of dollars.
What a hardscrabble life.
I really hope the Staff (chauffeurs, maids, cooks, housekeepers, etc.) get some millions in tips.

I wonder what I would do with one billion dollars, let alone eighty of them? That’s a LOT of dough.

I reckon after a couple hundred million dollars I could do some good. After that it all goes to the accountants and lawyers.
Greedy whore wife...greedy whore lawyers.
SPAM is a little pricier these days than it used to be. About five bucks for the classic 12oz can at my local grocer.
I’m pretty sure that six hundred million dollars could buy more than I could.
I love SPAM and I can’t stop laughing at your suggestion. I wonder if rich people like spam? (cue Monty Python and all Pacific Islanders).
Part of life’s bare necessities!
You just planted an earworm for the Bare Necessities.

Phil Harris. Kipling.
I could probably live on six hundred million dollars. I might to get a passport.
Hypergamy.
A woman will leave once she believes you have maxed out your opportunity and take half your stuff.
You can see that he looks like a provider and women don’t love men who are providers.
Read the article more carefully. The firm is worth $80 billion. The husband's stake is $6.2 billion.
There is a substantial difference between millionaire life and billionaire life.
She has lived billionaire life. Millionaire life would be a reduction.
She married for the monied lifestyle.
She is wayyyy out of his league
> The firm is worth $80 billion. The husband’s stake is $6.2 billion.<
How much of that is liquid?
Maybe the settlement should have her being responsible for the management of that stake. See how quickly it could evaporate, then defend herself in financial mismanagement lawsuits.
Many things deemed great wealth could vanish in a heartbeat.
