A new Canadian study led by University of Toronto professor Harvey Anderson adds to growing evidence that full-fat dairy can be part of a healthy diet.
In the 12-week study, 74 adults consumed different amounts of dairy under varying dietary conditions. The researchers found that eating three servings of full-fat dairy per day did not negatively affect body weight, body composition, energy metabolism, or blood lipid levels. The findings were recently published in The Journal of Nutrition.
Why Full-Fat Dairy Has Long Raised Concerns
Dairy foods contain saturated fat, which has traditionally been associated with higher cholesterol and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. As a result, dietary recommendations in Canada and many other countries have typically encouraged people to choose fat-free or low-fat dairy products as a way to reduce saturated fat intake.
Anderson, a professor of nutritional sciences at U of T's Temerty Faculty of Medicine, says the evidence from human research has not always matched those concerns. Numerous human studies have found no link between eating full-fat dairy and harmful health outcomes. Some studies, including recent research led by Temerty Medicine professor Kozeta Milliku, have even reported positive or protective effects associated with dairy consumption.

ACTS 10:
9 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
10 And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
11 And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending upon him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
12 Wherein were all manner of four-footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
16 This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
If you drink it right out of the cow, it can taste a little like that, it would be warm coming directly from the cows utter.
Put it in a container, put it in the refrigerator, get it nice and chilled and it’s very tasty, like drinking a lite cream. Use it just like regular store-bought milk in coffee, cereal, smoothies, etc. You could make butter out of it, which would also be very tasty.
> What seems painfully obvious maybe, at least in hindsight. Monetary policy is inherently political.<
Everything became political. If you want more people living in “poverty”, raise the threshold number that determines poverty level. If you want less, lower it.
America’s poor are in the top 2% of earners worldwide.
Meanwhile, our grandparents and great grandparents drank whole milk, ate red meat, bacon, sugar, eggs and potatoes. I haven’t seen many old pictures of fat people. Today???

Ever since I walked into the “creamery” room at a friend’s farm 70 years ago, I haven’t had milk, cream, yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese. The smell... 😵💫😢🤮 Triggers an ungodly gag reflex.
Last month, though, I started to drink chocolate milk for the calcium, and it’s fine.
If you like eggs, Don’t ever go into an egg processing plant....................
my parents grew up on farms and drank raw milk. they never suffered from the kinds of allergic or autoimmune problems that many people seem to have. I drink raw milk from time to time for the bacteria in them. I like the taste. I don’t understand what “guts” means. Could be I like the taste of “guts” depending on what that means.
Canadian study. That cements it for me!!
Strangely enough, or maybe not given the subject of this thread, Calcium is not well absorbed at all, except in the presence of fat.
Commercial chocolate Milk is ordinarily made with low-fat or even skim milk, the bahstids. You can easily make a fantastic chocolate syrup with cocoa powder, cane sugar, and water. Then use whole Milk. Half and Half works great too.
The human brain is the only organ that runs exclusively on Glucose. Thankfully, the body can synthesize what it needs from fat, in the absence of glucose or carbohydrate.
I love eggs, and have spent time at my friend’s chicken farm candling eggs when I was a girl. The chicken sh!t smell is bad but the creamery was worse.
I drink fat-free milk. I’m sure the calcium is absorbed. Even calcium from high-calcium water is absorbed.
I don’t do low fat anything. I prefer taste.
Eggs and whole milk. Butter, too.
FOREVER!
You’re “sure”. Well that settles it, then. Carry on! LOL
I’ve had both, since our neighbor had grass fed dairy cows. I didn’t detect any real difference between pasteurized and unpasteurized milk, both were and are delicious. But having known of people who got milk sickness from a bad batch of unpasteurized milk, I prefer not to take the chance.
There is a difference in the taste of milk from Jerseys verses Holstein and so on. Jersey is very, very rich. Probably the biggest factor in flavor is what the cows have been eating. They can get into something strong like wild garlic and that can make the milk less than optimal for say, a milkshake. If they are on commercial feed I suppose it would be consistent, but then you lose out on enjoying the little differences the different types of pasture and even the season of the year can give to milk.
(If milk tastes like crap when it isn’t or is pasteurized, it’s probably not the milk but because there is crap in your cup.)
Now, there is a difference in taste between milk in plastic bottles vs milk in glass. And of course there is a difference between milk with all the cream still in it, “whole” milk where cream’s been taken for making butter or cheese, and 2% which is tolerable, and disappointing 1% blue john, which tastes watery and bland and also looks very unappealing.
“You can easily make a fantastic chocolate syrup with cocoa powder, cane sugar, and water. Then use whole Milk. Half and Half works great too.”
Thanks for that. I’ve been wondering. I bought cocoa powder to see if i could make my own. I guess I can. And, yes, the stuff I buy is high in calcium but made with low-fast milk.
It takes a chemical process to REMOVE the fat, from dairy.
But, you go right ahead.
Also ... be sure to take some K2 (along with some D3) ... so that calcium goes to your bones, and, NOT your arteries.
But...you likely already know this.
Also, I do take 5,000 iu of D3 every day, asking with K2.

The fat is typically removed from milk with a centrifugal separator. That process doesn’t need, and as far as I know, use, chemicals.
