RICHFIELD, Wis. — A 69-year-old man flew a helicopter from the Rosendale area to a Cabela’s store in Richfield on Saturday evening because “the drive was too long,” the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said.
A sheriff’s deputy responded about 6 p.m. to a report that a helicopter had landed in the Cabela’s parking lot in the Village of Richfield.
The deputy contacted the pilot, a 69-year-old Rosendale man, who said he had flown to the sporting goods store. The drive from Rosendale to Richfield takes about 50 minutes.
The sheriff’s office said the pilot was properly licensed, landed safely and complied with all applicable Federal Aviation Administration regulations. He also answered the deputy’s questions about helicopter-landing requirements.
“We can honestly say this isn’t your everyday parking complaint,” the sheriff’s office said.
No arrests were made, and no violations were issued.

The closest location for us is Milwaukee. We gals (shopping buddies for 45+ years) make the trek sometimes twice a year.

To be fair, one does get a fantastic view of the world from a helo.
Been there done that.
But the view from the back of a CH-46 Sea Knight isn’t quite the same..............

Flight plans aren't required for VFR flights.
They're a good idea if you're on a cross-country flight, but aren't required unless you're flying IFR.
From 1971 to 1977 (when I was 17 thru 23 yrs old), we had a grass strip on the farm. Dad had a job flying a guy’s Cessna 310 ( 6 seat light twin engine). My sis and I had shares in a 1959 Piper Tri-Pacer.
Both planes had hangar space at airports, but were commonly parked at the farm when rough weather was in the forcast.
I learned to use every bit of a short runway when I was given the chance, by my dad, to land that 310 on that strip.
The Piper didn’t need half of the runway. Had a blast barnstorming the Suez township (Mercer County, IL) neighborhood.
Could be. I haven't piloted a plane in 40 years. I'm 99% sure it was 500 feet back than.
