Two-thirds of Americans believe the war in Iran has not been worth fighting.

A new AP-NORC poll found that roughly two-thirds of U.S. adults say the war that began Feb. 28 is not worthwhile. The sentiment is shared by the vast majority of Democrats (87%) and independents (68%), as well as 37% of Republicans.

The AP-NORC poll, conducted July 23-27, surveyed 1,165 adults and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.

Great post! That’s a very damning clip of Netanyahu’s scaremongering.

Link repeated for anyone who missed it:

Trump has gotten bad advice on Iran. I suspect that Netanyahu is one of the chief culprits. He had his own reasons for wanting a war, reasons that do not align with U.S. interests.

“Not worth it”

Only true if we continue to fight half-assed and don’t finish the job, as has been the case in ever war since WW2.

If paying $5/week more for gas would cause you real economic pain,

If you're driving a gas-guzzling SUV (like some of the huge tanks I see here in Los Angeles), you're paying way more than $5 a week.

The USA and Iran are at war and have been at war since 1979. How young are you?

“The midterms are almost certainly going to be lost.”

**************

Maybe but R’s could in the end be rescued from their own incompetence by the insanely radical Dems. Whatever, Trump saying things like rising gas prices are “peanuts” in the run up to a critical election (May 2026 quote) certainly doesn’t serve to motivate people to get out and vote for his party.

I think you are not up to date on the news in the last year or so.

" The rationale for this war was an “imminent threat,” NOT “47 years of war.”

They desperately need some new material

> So you can’t really call on Americans to act as if this was a war, can you? <

Fair point. And it’s not just Trump. Since 1945 we’ve been living in the age of the imperial presidency. No need to ask Congress for a Declaration of War. Just call the war by some other name.

Congress seems to be okay with this. And that’s the real disgrace.

Side point: Presidents traditionally have been given leeway to take quick military actions on their own in their capacity as commander-in-chief. That makes sense. If a threat is immediate, can’t wait around for Congress to convene.

But otherwise, the Constitution requires the input of Congress.

Only an idiot would not take those people seriously. I posted this to someone else yesterday:
Some people think it is absolutely just fine to allow people who have been screaming at the tops of their lungs for years that they are going to wipe us off the face of the Earth for nearly half a century (and since they only had access to knives, swords, guns, and non-nuclear bombs, have had to resort to using those to murder many of us on a smaller scale and gotten away with it) have been on a push to develop, and have admitted, with their own words, the intention to obtain nuclear weapons.

They invaded our Embassy and took Americans hostage 47 years ago, and that is ancient history, these same people say.

If we leave them to their devices and don't bother them, they won't bother us, these same people say.

We can't do anything now, it would hurt our party in the mid-term elections, these same people say.

We can't do anything now, it would hurt our party's chances in the Presidential election, these same people say.

It is not our business if these people have nuclear weapons and they have no problem with allowing them to obtain nuclear weapons, these same people say.

Why should we be allowed to have nuclear weaponry and deny that to Iran, these same people say.

We can keep them from getting what they need to build nuclear weapons, these same people say.

We can embargo them, these same people say.

We can levy sanctions against them, these same people say.

We should ignore them, these same people say.

They don't mean it, these same people say.

It is only rhetoric, these same people say.

They would never use a nuclear weapon, these same people say.

They won't kill us these same people say.

They don't actually really have any weapons grade fissile material, these same people say.

These same people won't wake up until the last thing their eyes see is the tumbling world as their heads roll away from an Islamic chopping block, or a mushroom cloud over an American port city, and these same people will be harder to find than self-admitted Nazi Party Members in Germany after May 8th, 1945.

Screw those same people.

Angelino97, you aren't one of those same people are you? Because your last post stated:

"...So what if a few Iranians scream "Death to America" for the cameras? You can find people all over the world -- including in the U.S. -- who scream "Death to America" for the cameras. Only an idiot would take every such showboating seriously...."

and that sure makes you sound like one of those same people.

Trump KNEW that an open conflict with Iran would be an immediate hit on his approval ... That is real courage...

Exactly. Well put.

Actually, no. Netanyahu and the Mossad, and likely Rubio and Hegseth, advised Trump that the Iran regime would fall within a week. That Iran would be another Venezuela.

A Big Beautiful Victory, quick and easy.

The false idol israel worshippers say it’s worth it to let Dems take over as long as israel gets what it wants. Christ-denier ‘conservatives’ on the radio said so... the same ‘never trumpers’ who now control maga and turned it into miga. Another complete Repub control of government wasted on idiotic wars just like W MORON wasting a Republican congress to focus on iraq.

I’m pretty sure Trump has taken numerous actions to punish Iran.
In any event the issue is Iran’s attacks on Americans which is an established fact.

Trump obviously thought he was going to get a regime change our of this and that didn’t happen. At least not yet.

New poll delivers brutal verdict on Trump’s Iran war: not worth it

Why are we putting enemy propaganda on Free Republic?

We have yet to pay any cost so high as millions being obliterated by a nuclear powered Iran.

"Not worth it?" How much are millions of lives worth?

2/3rds of Americans have no idea how powerful a nuclear bomb is and how crazy the Iranians are.

That is also what is wrong with a lot of ignorant Freepers.

Ah. You are one of the “Trump was led around by the Jooos” people.

Got it.

So, the Iranians are just all hot air and not a threat if we leave them alone, they haven’t killed thousands of Americans, and the Jooos led Trump by the nose into this because he is so pliant and gullible.

Got it.

If the Iranians were somehow able to arrange a mass casualty event on the order of Pearl Harbor or 9-11, a large portion of the American population would blame the CIA, Israel, or some other party than Iran for the destruction. The level of cynicism about official government reports has slowly risen over the decades, since the assassination of President Kennedy in 1963. It is common to hear conservatives and other rightists quote George Carlin, a lifelong left winger, in his cynical statements about government and powerful people who are behind the scenes. The COVID pandemic and the overreach of governments and Big Tech in reaction to the pandemic accelerated the distrust.
