Filmmaker Sophia Maddox ‘devastated’ and ‘dumbstruck’ to learn her grandfather was Charles Manson

Her DNA search results went helter-skelter.

Filmmaker Sophia Maddox broke down in tears when she and her father, Daniel Arguelles, learned from an online ancestry search that his dad was one of America’s most notorious criminals — Charles Manson.

“I was obviously very devastated,” Maddox, 26, exclusively told The Post. She recalled feeling “dumbstruck” and “sobbing.”

“My dad was just rubbing my back and holding me, and telling me we were nothing like him. But it was a little traumatic,” she added.

Co-directed by Maddox and Alexandra Orton, the Hulu documentary, “My Grandfather Charles Manson,” follows Maddox as she looks into Manson’s past, struggles with her fraught relationship with her father, and interviews former Manson family members such as Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme and Manson trial prosecutor Stephen Kay.

Arguelles was born in 1959, when his mother, Darlene, was 17. She met Manson at a bus stop when he was going by the name “Charlie Dear” and the pair had a one-night stand.

Manson — who was convicted of seven counts of first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit murder, including the horrific 1969 slaying of the pregnant Sharon Tate — died in prison at 83 in 2017.

Manson was well connected within the Hollywood/Music crowd.

Yep, music producer Terry Melcher (Doris Day's son), Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson and Neil Young were all friends of Manson of varying degrees. Neil Young was a quite impressed with his music and thought he had great potential.

Just to be clear, who should grow up? Me? Or her?

If she was really so “devastated” by the discovery, she could have kept the secret to herself. But she did not — she ran to the media. To me, it looks like a thinly veiled attempt to boost her publicity.

Beyond that, if I found out I had some notorious ancestor, I would not be ashamed or apologetic, because its not my fault. And, yes, one positive, mature spin on it is to recognize that you would not exist if were not for them.

I’m so devastated to learn that Charles Manson is my Grandfather that I have no choice but to publicize and monetize the news.

Me, either. But I did find a young tart who ran away with a married man about 130 years ago. He left behind a young son and wife. They moved to Winnipeg from Iowa to avoid the law and got married there. He opened a livery stable and died from Glanders, a horse disease that can be picked up by humans. He was the first of two husbands she “lost.”

There are no famous people in my ancestry.

People have different reactions. When we first moved to Rockford, IL, we met a nice, large family at the coffee and donuts after Mass. I mentioned to my wife that the name of one of the sons was Wyatt. She responded immediately, "That can't be. Their last name is Earp." Well, it turns out they are direct descendants. The Canadian in my wife would not allow her to even consider imposing that on her son. I thought it was pretty cool. They have since moved to Idaho.

Does that mean you haven’t put your DNA into one of the famous search groups? They send out constant lists of how your mother’s brother’s grandfather’s aunt’s husband’s cousin was someone stunningly famous.

” I was obviously very devastated “

Pretty much the same that Kedar said of Ismael, right?
Kedar is claimed to the progenitor of Mo-HAM-Head.

My cousin was friends with Charles Manson. Tripped with Manson on acid. Met him in jail. He took me to the ranch where the Manson cult was once. Very weird people walking around barefoot. He was in jail when the murders happened though and wasn’t really part of the cult.

Do I get any internet cred for this? No? No likes? That’s all that matters in life. /s
