A Tennessee mother shot and killed a man she found hiding under her 13-year-old daughter’s bed, according to cops — and now she’s facing first-degree murder charges.
Kendra Scott was arrested after police found a 20-year-old man dead from a gunshot wound in the back of his head outside her Memphis home just before 2 a.m. Thursday, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by The Post.
Her lawyer called the situation, “the worst nightmare of any parent of a 13-year-old girl.”
The 36-year-old mother told officers she came home and “saw a dude under my kids’ bed.”
“And I did what I had to do,” she said, per the affidavit.
The deadly incident unfolded after Scott’s teen daughter told cops she invited the man, Rodderius Morton, to the family’s home at around 1 a.m., according to the court document and Scott’s lawyer.
An enraged Scott started pounding on the front door and bellowing, “Who’s at my house?!” when she arrived home around 30 minutes later, the affidavit states.
Her unidentified daughter grew terrified when she noticed her mom was allegedly holding a gun.
Scott had said that if she “sees a boy in my house I will put a hole in his ass,” the daughter later told cops, according to the affidavit.
The teen eventually let her mother inside, where Scott allegedly found Morton hiding under her bed, the court doc states.
“Get out of my house bitch,” she allegedly screamed, and followed Morton out the front door.

“and whether he was invited or not does not matter She is under an age to make that decision”
That may depend upon facts not stated in the question. For example, if a minor invites someone into the minors home, the person invited could be considered an invitee, authorized to be there. On the other hand, if the parent asks a person to leave and they refuse, the police could be called for help removing the trespasser

I don't know if you meant to be funny, but I about spit out my coffee.
Tough case for a jury. Looks like the daughter invited him to the home. Dunno if she lied about her age to him. Mother went ballistic but she seemed to know he was not there uninvited, that her daughter invited him. Maybe not the daughter’s first rodeo doing this stuff. Lost control in a fit of passion. Smells more like manslaughter than murder.
You are not allowed to kill someone just because you are mad and/or because you guess something happened.
I.e., that would have value in the neighborhood. What an unfortunate footnote. OTOH, it is just an extreme form of a shotgun marriage.
The only reason it would be a gamble is because she is black. I think if a white father had done it, there wouldn't even have been an arrest.
The fact that the child invited him in is no excuse. The man should have known she was underage, and if not, should have asked her to make sure.
A child is not old enough to smoke, drink or sign a contract. A child is protected statutorily even if engaging in consensual sex. (The only exception to this age-old rule seems to be transgenderism, under the evil lie that it is "healthcare".)
Shove your strawman where the sun don't shine.
Yeah it’s 100% murder. Not at all what the headline suggested.
I do agree. I have read other comments since I made my last one, and I do see that shooting him in the back outside the house is a major strike against her, although I tend to agree with the crime of passion aspect. But an emotion-driven warning to her daughter about “putting a hole in his ass” does not sound like classic premeditation, the requirement for first degree, since she only (allegedly) said “a boy”, not which boy her daughter might have been contemplating some misbehavior with. So “it wasn't personal—just business.” Mama bidness.
She made the world a better place to live.
She should have said, “It’s comin’ right for us!”
Exactly.
You stay classy now, hear?
Whatever you say, Captain Straw Man.
Innocent...
“Like a couple of months of community service...”
In a way, she did do community service, when you think about it.
Ha! Yes, give her community service, and then add “time served” for shooting the perp!:)
