Memphis mom killed a man she found under 13-year-old daughter’s bed — now she’s charged with murder

A Tennessee mother shot and killed a man she found hiding under her 13-year-old daughter’s bed, according to cops — and now she’s facing first-degree murder charges.

Kendra Scott was arrested after police found a 20-year-old man dead from a gunshot wound in the back of his head outside her Memphis home just before 2 a.m. Thursday, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by The Post.

Her lawyer called the situation, “the worst nightmare of any parent of a 13-year-old girl.”

The 36-year-old mother told officers she came home and “saw a dude under my kids’ bed.”

“And I did what I had to do,” she said, per the affidavit.

The deadly incident unfolded after Scott’s teen daughter told cops she invited the man, Rodderius Morton, to the family’s home at around 1 a.m., according to the court document and Scott’s lawyer.

An enraged Scott started pounding on the front door and bellowing, “Who’s at my house?!” when she arrived home around 30 minutes later, the affidavit states.

Her unidentified daughter grew terrified when she noticed her mom was allegedly holding a gun.

Scott had said that if she “sees a boy in my house I will put a hole in his ass,” the daughter later told cops, according to the affidavit.

The teen eventually let her mother inside, where Scott allegedly found Morton hiding under her bed, the court doc states.

“Get out of my house bitch,” she allegedly screamed, and followed Morton out the front door.

Her daughter invited him in. He didn’t break in. When she demanded he leave it appears that he complied. Shooting him in back, and outside of her home, doesn’t look good either.

He was probably taunting her while he was walking out, like “you ain’t gon’ do nuffin, bitch” Not a good idea with an angry woman who has just found him under her daughter’s bed.. Then came the FO part.. She is likely trouble, if he was leaving the house. Extreme leniency should be shown, though. Like a couple of months of community service...

"...I would’ve shot him while he was still under the bed..."

Her statement about if she "...sees a boy in my house I will put a hole in his ass...” is problematic for her defense as that implies forethought, and even worse, shooting him outside the house. If his daughter is saying that she said that, it might be judged hearsay in some way or contrived by the daughter and thus inadmissible, but..I am no lawyer.

We may or may not agree with her putting a bullet in that full grown man statutorily raping her daughter, but she has made the defense of her very difficult by shooting the man outside the house.

I will opine that instead of zipping her lips, she gave the police “her side of the story” thus guaranteeing a murder charge.

13? is that old enough to give consent for a 20 year old to be over? the guy was still a predator even if she allowed him over.

I know people do it, but evidently 13 is not old enough (or wise enough) to leave some teens home alone.

You’re not supposed to shoot them in the back of the head in your front yard. You are supposed to shoot them in the front of their head when they’re still in your house. She’s in big trouble.

In their culture (and ours) they all get a bye on the statutory rape issue.

Go to an inner city OB ward. Thirteen and fourteen year old moms all the time. Smiling grandmamas. Moms not so much -- they might just be laboring down the hall.

Never an issue of statutory rape. Are you kidding? This is their culture.

Get signed up for free diapers, bottled formula, give the baby to grandmama (or greatgrandmama) and get back to the party.

Has been like this ever since LBJ founded The Great Society.

Isn't it Great?

And he is dead now.
He certainly won’t be doing that anymore.

“”””Shooting him from behind aafter he had left the dwelling was understandable but not the best choice.””””

It’s a cleaning issue. Shoot him in the house and you have blood and guts all over. Do it in the yard, spray it with a hose and be done.

Sure, he could even have threatened her too. The problem is that the mother is likely the only one who can testify as to what he said on the way out. That means she needs to testify and waive her right against self-incrimination.

Somebody has to run order in the ‘hood if there will be progress to bring sustainability to get to a just society.

The problem is that at present, only the cops have a license to kill people who offend them. They can claim they were in fear for their safety, and they rarely if ever, get charged with manslaughter, assault, reckless endangerment, or anything else. If you are Bernie Goetz, or this mother, prosecutors bring charges even when the person who pulls the trigger is in fear, or in an agitated state for being close proximity to a felony.

not so fast. If she shot him under her daughter’s bed, I think the castle doctrine could apply. It doesn’t say anything about mode of entry, it says commission of a felony. I think statutory rape is still a felony, even in Memphis. Shooting him in the front yard just speaks to her lack of mental control. Crime of passion.
